Of the 33 case studies, 30 (about 90%) were shown to include overgeneralization thinking distortion. In all these cases, such overgeneralization concerned a central theme in the same category as Luborsky's components of transference. The results show that overgeneralization thinking errors (cognitive therapy) are the current cognitive manifestation of the transference patterns (psychoanalytic therapy). This observation maps the complementary character of the concepts and thus takes an additional significant step forward towards the consolidation of a theoretical platform for integrative intervention.
The authors propose an advanced relationships between categories (RBC) model as an expansion of Tutty, Rothery, and Grinnell's (1996) qualitative tool for classifying RBC patterns as contained, temporal, and causal relationships. It is assumed that identification of the relationships obtained among categories of qualitative data paves the way for construction of a theory, even though few tools have been developed for this purpose to date. The advanced RBC model points to three additional relationship patterns: bilateral, trilateral, and quadrilateral relationships. These relationships reveal how the text itself links among its various components. The model serves as an innovative tool for systematic derivation of explanations based on the qualitative raw data, contributing to grounded theory and other interpretive studies.
This article introduces a clinical Wish and Overgeneralization (W&O)Model for dynamic, cognitive and narrative procedures, supported by a metasynthetic study linking cognitive overgeneralization and psychodynamic transference and determining it to be the antithesis of wish -a Luborsky (1988a) transference component. The model emphasizes symptoms and patient core themes: The therapist interprets the conflict between wish and overgeneralization, indicating how it confirms the overgeneralization and sabotages the wish. He helps the patient identify unique outcomes (White & Epston, 1990) for formulation of positive self-statements (Meichenbaum, 1994(Meichenbaum, , 1985(Meichenbaum, , 1977 and proposes an alternative narrative based on a coherent experience. This integrative therapy thus combines insight-oriented and coping strategies.
the current research belongs to the stream of theoretical integration and establishes a theoretical platform for integrative psychotherapy in anxiety disorders. Qualitative metasynthesis procedures were applied to 40 peer- reviewed psychoanalytic articles involving emotional regulation. the concept of psychodynamic emotional regulation was found to be connected with the categories of desensitization, gradual exposure, containment, and transference. this article presents a model according to which psychoanalytic psychotherapy allows anxiety to be tolerated while following the core principles of systematic desensitization. it is shown that despite the antiresearch image of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, its foundations obey evidence- based principles. the findings imply that anxiety tolerance might be a key goal in which the cumulative wisdom of the different therapies can be used to optimize psychotherapy outcomes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
