The Cellulolytic activities of the isol at ed f ungi w ere ev aluat ed in s olid medium b y s tai ning t h e f ungal c olonies wit h 0. 1% C ongo red. O ut of t he twent y-f ungal species onl y si xteen species recorded cellulol ytic activit y. T he highest cell ulas e activit y on carboxy methyl cell ulos e (C MC) agar plates wer e ac hiev ed with A. t erreus, A . flavipes and A. sy da wi. The cellul ol ytic f ungi were s elec ted t o es timat e t he Carboxy m et hyl cellulase (C MC ase), Filter pap er cell ulas e (FPas e) and β-gluc osidas e (βG as e) in liquid medium. All tes ted f ungi showed c onsider able activit y f or t he thr ee enz ym es. T he highes t CMC ase and β Gas e ac tivities wer e recorded with A . t erreus (43. 30 and 33.20 u/ml respectiv el y) while Penicillium lanos um show ed t he highes t activit y (29.20 u/ml). The results indic at ed t hat the maxim um t ot al cellulol ytic activit y w as rec orded with A . terreus f ollow ed by A. flavi pes and A. sydawi (91. 30, 83.50, and 74. 8 u/ml, respectiv el y).
