The pH dependence of the redox chemistry of [R~(dmphen),(H,O)]~+ has been measured (dmphen = 2,9dimethyl-1,lO-phenanthroline). Comparison of the results with those for similar complexes illustrates the unique acidity of the co-ordinated waters and the large oxidizing strength of the ruthenium. The reaction of [R~(dmphen),(H,O),]~+ with H,O, has been studied as a function of pH and the results are used to provide a mechanism for the catalysis of alkane oxidation by this complex.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
