This study evaluated the rate of post-natal depression (PND) in a Malaysian population, investigated the relationship between belief systems and PND, and examined the relationship between PND and somatization. The sample included 154 consecutive attendees for a 6-week post-natal check at a general hospital well-baby clinic in Kuala Lumpur. Patients were assessed using the Edinburgh Post-Natal Depression Score (EPNDS), the Bradford Somatisation Inventory (BSI), and a questionnaire to assess beliefs about pregnancy and childbirth. The rate of PND was 3.9%. EPNDS and BSI were moderately correlated. Women who practised specific post-natal practices had a higher EPNDS and BSI than those who did not. The rate of PND is lower than in Western studies but similar to that seen in other Asian countries. The correlation between BSI and EPNDS suggest that the BSI will not detect cases missed by the EPNDS.
Ignorance of pathogenesis in Clostridium difficile may be attributable to a lack of effective genetic tools. We have now shown that oriTbased shuttle vectors may be conjugated from Escherichia coli donors to the C. difficile strain CD630, at frequencies of around 10 36 transconjugants per donor cell. Transfer is unaffected by either sequences present on the vector or its methylation status. Whilst the genome of this strain carries five methylase genes, there is no in silico or experimental evidence for cognate restriction enzymes. It would seem that the identified methylases do not participate in restriction-modification, and must, therefore, fulfil another role. A similar situation most likely applies to other clostridia.
First vision-based approaches for detecting the drivable road area on unmarked streets were introduced in recent years. Although most of these visual feature-based approaches show sound results in scenarios of limited complexity, they seem to lack the necessary system-inherent flexibility to run in complex cluttered environments under changing lighting conditions. Our proposed architecture relies on four novel approaches that make such systems more generic by autonomously adapting important system parameters to the environment. As the presented results show, the approach allows for robust road detection on unmarked inner-city streets without manual tuning of internal parameters. The described system was implemented in C relying on the Intel Performance Primitives library and proved its real-time capability. It will be a sub-module of an advanced driver assistance architecture, which runs in real-time on a test vehicle.
This article reviews the conceptual foundations of adaptive behavior as they relate to adults and young adults who exhibit different subtypes and severities of learning disabilities. Research findings about adaptation to education, employment, and social settings are presented. Implications of the role of adaptive behavior in self-determination are hypothesized.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
