The Global Positioning System (GPS), in particular, is becoming the dominant source for navigation, precision, and timing information in weapon, vehicles, and command and control systems. With the large investment in GPS-dependent systems, there is a tendency to overlook GPS shortcomings and vulnerabilities. However, we've reached the point where satellites have become a center of gravity for both military planning and operations. Moreover, the U.S.has not yet weaponized space to protect its assets. The Joint Force Commander should not rely on GPS as the sole navigational/precision/ timing source in planning and executing operational campaigns.
This research project examined current technology transfer programs and developed a template for Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) to use to transfer its research programs to the private sector. Several technology transfer processes and opportunities within the Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) were analyzed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
