Container terminals are complex systems where many interrelated operations have to be conducted to achieve the best possible throughput and customers' satisfaction. Simulation models of such systems have to be based on suitable modelling paradigm. The paper presents utilisation of agent-based architecture ABAsim for creation of two-layer agent model of container terminal operation that reflects the hierarchical structure of the modelled system. Brief description of all employed model agents and their mutual cooperation and communication is provided. Presented model has been successfully implemented and integrated into existing transportation terminal simulation tool Villon.
Microscopic simulation of container terminal is incomplete without sophisticated and authentic movement of mobile handling equipment. The modelled infrastructure has to be processed before the path finding takes its place. In this paper, the infrastructure is represented by navigation mesh which splits the traversable space into multiple convex polygons. A simple algorithm for creation of navigation mesh is presented, with some extensions dedicated to specific container terminals environment. Additional more complex algorithms are listed as well. Finally a combination of navigation mesh and grid-of-tiles approach is given.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
