Introduction Treatment of decubitus ulcers is a grave medical problem. In many cases, it is difficult to cure a pressure ulcer, especially when it is deep and extensive, and prognosis is usually unfavourable. Treatment of decubitus ulcers requires new specialist dressings, which play an important role in the healing process. Aim To evaluate therapeutic efficacy of active specialist medical dressings in the treatment of decubitus. Material and methods Research involved 40 patients – 18 (45%) women and 22 (55%) men, suffering from decubitus ulcers of different size and depth, localized in the sacral region, lasting from 1.5 to 30 months. Patients were randomly assigned to two research groups (20 people each), were treated for 4 weeks with 2 different specialist dressings. ATRAUMAN Ag, which contains silver ions, was used in the first group, while paraffin gauze of BACTIGRAS type was used in the second group. An assessment of pressure ulcers’ healing progress was done with a planimetric method, which evaluates the wound surface area. Results The analysis results showed a significant statistical decrease in an average decubitus ulcer surface area in both research groups: in the first group by 60.2% ( p = 0.001), and in the second group by 32.95% ( p < 0.001), which speaks in favour of dressings with silver ions as having better therapeutic effectiveness. Conclusions Using specialist dressings results in a significant decrease in the decubitus ulcer surface area, depending on the type of dressing and active substances contained within, while silver ions support curative effectiveness of the dressing used.

Background. The most intensive pains suffered by patients after surgical interventions are caused by post-operative peritoneal adhesions, which are incorrect connective tissue connections formed on or among internal organs and tissues in the abdominal cavity. These adhesion-related pains are resistant to analgesic treatment and often persist for many years. Objectives. in this trial, the estimation of the efficacy of combined treatment with the use of two variable magnetic field related therapeutic methods (magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation) in the treatment of 119 patients with chronic abdominal pains caused by numerous post-operative peritoneal adhesions was performed. Material and methods. 67 patients from the examined group were subjected to two series of 20 daily procedures of exposure to variable magnetic fields in the form of magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation, while 52 patients from the comparison group were subjected to sham exposure, during which no magnetic field was generated in the applicators. Prior to the therapeutic cycle and after its completion, the assessment of pain intensity, with the use of the Visual analogue scale (Vas), and subjective estimation of quality of life, by means of the euroQol scale, were performed. Results. in patients from the examined group, a significant decrease in pain intensity, according to the Vas, and a significant improvement of life quality level, on the euroQol scale, in comparison to initial values, was achieved (8.0 ± 1.1 vs 2.3 ± 1.0 points, and 30.2 ± 14.1 vs 86.2 ± 8.5 points, respectively (p < 0.05); while in the control group, no statistically significant changes of the estimated parameters were observed. Conclusions. Magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation are efficient therapeutic methods in the case of patients with long-lasting abdominal pain related to peritoneal adhesions, enabling an improvement in their life quality (regardless of gender and age). Taking into account that magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation are not applicable in primary care, family doctors should consider a consultation with a physical therapy specialist in order to prescribe a cycle of physical treatment with the use of these methods in the case of such patients with drug-resistant abdominal pain caused by diagnosed postoperative peritoneal adhesions.
The paper describes the case of a patient with a lateral ankle fracture, who came to the hospital emergency department. After a series of diagnostic tests, the patient was fitted with a plaster splint and was discharged home. During the follow-up visit, the cast was removed (numerous bruises, circulation problem, mobility problem, swelling), the patient started rehabilitation due to the persistent complications described above and in order to restore the condition of the treated limb. After 2 months of intensive rehabilitation, including a number of methods, therapies and physical treatments, limb mobility was restored, swelling and pain were reduced, which enabled the patient to live independently and return to work.
Physical medicine and its wide therapeutic potential shows that this methods can be used in many fields of medicine.It pertains also the wide application of the low-frequency magnetic fields and low-energy optical light emitted by diodes LED.The aim of the study is to present the beneficial results of the treatment a 92-year-old female patient in whom in addition typical pharmacological treatment magnetoledtherapy and magnetostimulation treatments were used, lead to complete healing of the chronic wound.Together with a surgical cleansing of the wound, its daily hygiene comprising of change dressings and pharmacotherapy, additional treatments supporting wound healing such as magnetoledtherapy and magnetostimulation were implemented. A series of 40 daily treatments were carried out, except Saturday and Sunday, with a positive effect.
