Academic dishonesty in higher education is an increasingly visible problem throughout the world and in Romania in particular. A total of 1127 university students from six public Romanian universities were surveyed for their experiences and beliefs with 22 behaviors that might be considered academically dishonest. A five-factor solution to the High Educ
In the context of the recent labor shortages in Eastern European countries, Romania included, companies, organizations and decision makers need to strongly address the issue of labor motivation for increasing worker performance and also for attracting the scarce labor resources. The main goal of the research is to explore new determinants of work motivation, such as regional sustainability and also individual factors related to individual expectations. Therefore, the responsive methodology used for this purpose implies a multilevel econometric modelling, in which the first level regards individuals, and the second one consists in development regions. Moreover, the role of individual factors is tested using Vroom’s theory of expectations and filling a gap in the existing literature on work motivation in developing, post-communist economies. The main findings prove that one dimension of sustainability, namely social sustainability has a significant impact on work motivation, alongside with four dimensions of individual factors. Economic and environmental sustainability have no significant impact on work motivation in the case of Romanian workers.
Abstract:The emerging economies that do not face fiscal, monetary and foreign debt pressures can use the savings generated by lower oil prices for investments in order to generate economic growth. Hence, there is no doubt that the oil price affects the economy's resilience to shocks. The importance of this impact derives from the magnitude of the price change and its diffusion within the economy. Moreover, the sustainability of any company and of the economy as a whole is subject to the availability and the price of the energy resources. The cost of these resources is an important variable used in the majority of the models regarding the assessment of sustainable development. Therefore, this article examines the impact of the oil price changes on industrial production in Romania. We found that, similar to other countries, in Romania, the growth rate of industrial production responds more strongly to a rise in oil prices. Thus, the oil Brent price has an asymmetric effect on the production evolution. This finding suggests that macroeconomic stabilization is more difficult to achieve when the oil price rises.
The research concept refers to the search for information; it can be defined as a scientific and systematic search for relevant information on a particular topic. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation. Some consider research to be a movement, a movement from knowledge to ignorance. In this sense, the article allows to carry out an evaluation of the field of research within the universities of Europe regarding the research process in the university environment and the impact of the research projects on the academic performances. Bucharest University of Economic Studies have been involved in different scientific research projects in order to foster the modernization of the textile field, to create a favourable environment for the textile companies where they can develop their activities, implicitly supporting a sustainable development of this industry. One of the strategic directions for such development was to design and support the development of clusters for competitiveness in this field. Through this paper, we have conducted an in-depth analysis of the impact of research projects in the Bucharest University of Economic Studies in the period 2014‒2018, using the propensity score method and performing a descriptive analysis of the data. One of the main results obtained, which is also consistent with the literature, is that research projects in the academic environment have a significant impact on the performance index h, the coefficient of the variable h index being statistically positive and significant. Thus, with an increase in the number of teachers benefiting from research projects, index h will also register an increase at the level of each individual. Funding based on academic performance can widen the gap between research and teaching. Therefore, the quality measurement instruments of the research should be treated with greater indulgence, as it is not possible to describe the contributions of an individual in a certain field of research based on simple numerical values.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
