Oleic acid has many beneficial effects on human health. One of the main dietary sources of oleic acid is olive oil. Non-Mediterranean European countries, including Serbia, have low habitual olive oil consumption, but other vegetable oils also contain different amounts of oleic acid. In infants and young children milk is the most important source of fatty acids, including oleic acid. Furthermore, fatty acid composition of plasma phospholipids reflects dietary intake and fatty acid metabolism. In patients with serious chronic diseases fatty acid status is altered independently on the intake. Here we reviewed status of oleic acid in healthy persons as well as in patients with different chronic diseases in Serbia.
Data obtained in this study suggest a possible relationship between a limited hip abduction of range of motion in athletes and an increased risk of anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Introduction. Rupture of lateral collateral ligament of the knee is most often joined with other ligament ruptures. Isolated rupture of this ligament is rare and there are few papers about treatment options and results. Here we reported a case of isolated lateral collateral ligament rupture and the treatment outcome. Case report. A patient, 22 years old male, injured his left knee while playing American football. While landing on the outstretched left leg, he felt a sudden pain in his knee. The patient could not continue the competition. Initial orthopedic examination revealed lateral opening and further diagnostic procedure (magnetic resonance imaging) revealed isolated grade III rupture of lateral collateral ligament with avulsion fracture of the fibular head, and distension of anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. Patient was surgically treated with metal sutures passed through conjoined tendon and proximal fibula. Postoperatively patient worn above knee cast for 6 weeks and after that he was included in rehabilitation. Three and six years after this injury, the patient has still been professional football player with no symptoms and no clinical instability of the knee despite radiological and computed tomography verified pseudoarthrosis of the fractured fibular head fragment. Conclusion. Early diagnostic and absence of additional injuries of the knee leads to a faster and full functional recovery of patients with isolated avulsion fracture of the fibular head, while surgical treatment provides knee stability with no residual ligament instability during sports activities.Apstrakt lečenje obezbeđuje stabilnost kolena i povratak sportskim aktivnostima.
Pored toga, prisutni su još i otok i hematom, osetljivost oba kondila i klasičan deformitet u obliku slova »S« u predelu zgloba lakta (10). Prelomi mogu biti zatvoreni i otvoreni. Pri zatvorenim prelomima integritet kože nije prekinut, dok pri otvorenim prelomima postoji
Introduction. In our modern "high-tech""society, comfort of the patient is often forgotten because the practice is usually performed according to the bio-medical model and focused only on solving the physical problems of the patient rather than on a holistic approach. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the comfort level of patients hospitalized with the immobilization. Material and Methods. The study was conducted as an observational, analytical cross-sectional study by interviewing 124 patients hospitalized at the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina. Comfort Immobilization Questionnaire with 20 individual statements that describe the current good or bad condition of the patient was used as an instrument of research. Descriptive and inferential statistics methods were applied for statistical data processing and statistical significance was determined at p < 0.05. Results. The immobilized orthopedic patients reported a high level of comfort in the socio-cultural and spiritual context, which was, however, insufficient in the physical context and the immediate environment context. A low level of comfort was reported by the patients between the ages of 36 and 59 years and the patients with immobilization of the upper extremities. Comfort level was conditioned by the intensity of pain and applied analgesic therapy rather than the duration of applied immobilization. Conclusion. The results of this study indicate that the patients' comfort level is significantly affected by modifying factors such as hospital facilities as well as the type of immobilization and their age. Comfort Immobilization Questionnaire has proven to be a simple and reliable questionnaire for testing the patients comfort level in different contexts.
