Based on the analysis of differences between traditional highway maintenance and traffic safety maintenance, the essay defines the highway traffic safety maintenance concept and connotation from the needs of highway traffic safety maintenance. The index system of highway traffic safety maintenance evaluation, which provides the theory and method for highway traffic safety maintenance evaluation work, was established from five aspects, namely, subgrade and pavement, safety facilities, management facilities, intersection and greening.
