Because of climate change, global warming and depletion of natural non-renewal resources the business world has become in a growing need for activities that can preserve natural environment from hazardous effects, especially that customers became more aware about the importance of environmental conservation. In the management field, it is widely known that no plan can be done effectively without human resource awareness. Hence, all activities that aim at achieving environmental goals should include transforming employees into green. This research aims at shedding light on human resource managers' awareness of green HRM practices, besides, focusing on human resource management "HRM" green practices in five star hotels. A questionnaire was directed to 28 five star hotel human resource managers in Sharm-Elshiekh. The obtained data was analyzed statistically by "SPSS" 17.The research revealed that although hotels human resource managers are aware of green HRM they are not fully deploying green HRM practices at their departments. The research recommends involving green practices into human resource management policies in order to transform hotels employees to green.
It is widely known that employee turnover has a negative impact on organizations, as it refers to the rate at which an organization loses employees. On this ground, it was a stigma associated with any organization to get a high employee turnover rate. Hence, the term "employee retention" was developed as an opposite technique to employee turnover, as it refers to all practices and policies that the organization deploys to encourage the employees to stay at the organization. However, recent researches have pointed out that there are different types of employee turnover, and not all of them are negative. These types are due to the employee turnover reasons, ranging from termination of poor performance employees and replacing them with more qualified ones "which is known as positive employee turnover" to departure of high skilled employees who decides to move to other organizations. This research aims at evaluating to what extent Egyptian hotels use positive employee turnover strategies versus employee Retention strategies. A questionnaire was directed to five star hotels human resources managers in Sharm-Elshiekh. Collected data was analyzed statistically. The research revealed that hotels management needs to identify which positions, profiles and skills are most important to them and when turnover is most detrimental to their organization.
In order to increase organizations' productivity, managers focus on employees' creativity in setting and achieving forward-looking goals. This approach is known "Management by objectives" (MBO), which requires every department manager to set specific measurable goals with each employee and discuss the result toward the previously set goals. On the other hand, every employee has a unique personality that differentiates him from others. Hence, understanding the employee personality gives clues about how he acts and feels in various situations. Therefore, to manage people effectively, it is helpful to understand their different personalities for placing them into their suitable jobs and to understand how they can set their specific goals. This research aims at investigating the influences of personality types on MBO in the hotels industry. A survey method was used to collect practical data from 229 employees in 31 five star hotels in Greater Cairo; the obtained data was analyzed statistically. The research revealed that there are two personality types had positive influences on MBO dimensions. The research recommends that hotels should study employees' personality types to be able to create teams of personality types that can positively influence MBO.
Hospitality industry is a part of a larger industry known as travel and tourism industry. Developing of this industry needs updating of knowledge continuously by creating mutual links with research institutions. This research aims at highlighting the factors that influence hospitality industry development via scientific research from both scientific researchers and hotels policy makers' perspectives. Two questionnaires were designed to collect practical data, the first was directed to hotel managers, and the second was directed to hospitality scientific researchers. The collected data was analyzed statistically. The research developed a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis for the factors influencing hospitality industry development via scientific research. The research recommends enhancing the role of scientific research in developing this industry by ensuring the mutual links under the supervision of the national governmental agenda Keywords: Hospitality Industry-Scientific Research-SWOT analysis. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………... Introduction Scientific research (SR) is defined as a systematic and controlled investigation of hypothetical propositions about the presumed relations among observed phenomena, and helps to create scientific knowledge. This means that the main role of SR is to develop studies that address current and actual problems and to focus on recommending solutions to be applied nationally (Molteberg et al., 2000). In service industries, despite of the importance of scientific researches, little researches are translated into actions, even when they are on issues in scope. Mostly, it returns to two major problems: Transmitting the researches' results to the industry policy makers and the trust of the policy makers in the researches' results (Coe et al 2002). Literature Review Before 1970s, it was highly assumed that most scientific researches' results are widely used by policy makers for decision making. Till 1979 Caplan observed that policy makers became rarely using knowledge gained through scientific researches, hence, he developed his theory "two communities" which emphasizes that there is a cultural gap between scientific researchers and policy makers, each of them has his own worldviews that made him create a separate community away from the other (Caplan, 1979). Afterwards, in 1993 Sabatier and Jenkins-Smith clarified that policy makers have direct and indirect links to utilize scientific researches' results, as they may not use scientific researches' results in the nearby time "directly", but they use them to develop a gradual shift in their conceptual thinking over time "indirectly" (Sabatier and Jenkins-Smith, 1993). In the hospitality industry, although there are several other stakeholders who can affect or be affected by the industry's policies (creditors, owners, employees, governmental agencies, unions and suppliers ….), still hotel managers are the most important sector who puts and controls the organization's strategies, as they are re...
