The Study entitled "Assessment of Knowledge, Attitude and perception of Pharmacovigilance and Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Reporting among the Pharmacy Students in South India" was designed to assess the awareness of Pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting, and to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention. A validated (pilot study) self administered (KAP) Knowledge, attitude, perception survey questionnaire was used in the study. This prospective knowledge attitude practice (KAP) questionnaire study, of 6 month duration included a total of 225(90%) participants out of 250. An interactive educational intervention was designed for all participants of pre-KAP questionnaire survey. The impact of effectiveness of educational intervention among the pharmacy students was evaluated by means of post-KAP questionnaire survey. The paired t-test and chi-square test in GraphPad InStat was used for statistical calculation. The overall response rates between pre intervention and post intervention was statistically significant (P< 0.001) shows effectiveness of educational intervention for improving awareness of pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting among the participants. The study concluded that imparting the knowledge and awareness of Pharmacovigilance among the pharmacy students by means of continuous educational intervention would bring up updated knowledge and practice in drug safety and rational use.
Background: Healthcare organization is a sector where patient is the main focus where improving the patient outcome is the imperative function. Patient satisfaction survey helps in evaluating the quality of the services provided by the hospital. Objective: The current prospective observational (survey-based) study of six months duration aimed in evaluating the patient experience and satisfaction towards the paramedical services provided in a healthcare setting of south India. Methods: A standard and validated questionnaire on paramedical services was designed consisting of 32 questions reviewed by the nurses and pharmacists, for the simplicity, reliability and clear understanding of the patients relating to various aspects that influence the patient satisfaction. The questions had been scored ranging from 1-5 based on the satisfaction levels. A proper information consent was made during data collection by clearly explaining the patients about the study. Results: In 250 patients, the study participant responded 49.2% of satisfaction towards patient centered pharmaceutical care services, 43.6% of satisfaction towards nursing care service, 52% and 53.6% of satisfactory level towards nutrition and laboratory services respectively. In our study, the overall response of the patient about paramedical services was satisfactorial. Conclusion: In conclusion, the principles of patient centered paramedical care services has to be implemented and practiced to achieve better health outcome and patient satisfaction.
Background: Chronic kidney disease is becoming a major public health problem worldwide. The expansion of haemodialysis into a chronic renal replacement therapy also created a new field of medical science, sometimes termed the physiology of the artificial kidney but associated with acute complications. Objectives: The current longitudinal cohort study of six months duration was performed in a tertiary care teaching hospital of south India to assess acute complications associated with haemodialysis in a CKD cohort. Materials and Methods: A Structured process was followed for obtaining permission from hospital authority after the acceptance of institutional review board, a total of 109 patients diagnosed with CKD of both the genders attending department of nephrology for haemodialysis showing willingness towards the study were included and others were excluded. Enrolled patient's demography, approximate data of diagnosis (old cases) and definite data of diagnosis (new cases), vital parameters, treatment, physical examinations and laboratory parameters were obtained and documented. Results: In our study of 109 CKD patients, 81.65% were male and 49.53% falls under the age group of 41 -60 years, it was observed that 56.88% patients suffers severe anaemia out of which 43.12% were female, and 51.37% suffered severe chronic kidney disease based on serum creatinine levels. Stage I hypertension was reported in 36.69% of patients. Conclusion: In conclusion, complications caused by the reasons other than the dialysis machine and water system remain as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in haemodialysis patients.
The current cross-sectional survey of six months duration was performed to assess pharmacy student's attitude towards academic research in self-financing private pharmacy institutions in south India. The study included students of both genders of all pharmacy who showed their willingness by administering a standard validated questionnaire with a total of sixteen inventories. In our review of four hundred and thirty student responses, female (55.35%) students were female, and 90.93% student participants belong to the age group of 20-25 years. More than half of the students (53.49%) agreed. Research participation is a vital parameter in employment, research and pharmaceutical education. More than fifty per cent our study participants recommend proper financial and resource funding and timelines are the significant limitations in performing research activities. In our study, 62.32% of respondents recommended a fortified research establishment for academicians which could improve and integrate a sustained development in teaching-learning and practice of scientific research in graduating students for their education and career. conclusion, the perspective of pharmacy students towards research investigated in our study was found satisfactory; and recommended a significant focus on financial grant or support, fortified research environment, and dedicated research curriculum for the sustainable development of academic research.
