This correlational study explored the relationship between creative abilities and selected meta-learning competences.The study was conducted among 250 first-year undergraduate and graduate students who solved the Test for CreativeThinking -Drawing Production and filled in the My Learning Questionnaire. The results demonstrate a statistically significant correlation between students' awareness of their own learning and their creative abilities as well as a positive link between creative abilities and level of knowledge about human learning. These relationships were not moderated by the level of studies -the links among undergraduate and graduate students were similar in the case of self-awareness of learning and knowledge about learning.
Cognition and meta-learning competencies are important elements in teacher education programs. The research presented was aimed at discovering the link between the need for cognition and meta-learning competence. The research sample comprised 250 students of teacher education in their first-year of study for the degree of licencjat (Bachelor's equivalent) and magister (Master's equivalent). Research findings demonstrate the existence of 1) a correlation between the students' need for cognition and their meta-learning competence, 2) differences between students at the Bachelor's and Master's level of education with regard to their expressed need for cognition and meta-learning competence (including subcomponents of the latter) which suggests that these needs and competencies develop over the course of their university education.
Theability to manage one’s own process of learning (metalearning) is necessary and required of nearly any professional. To develop this skill, you need to have the creative attitude, i.e., to be critical and reflective towards yourself as a learner. This applies even more to teachers, who do not only learn how to learn but should also be able to ensure their students proper conditions for learning this skill. On the other hand, as a person who prepares children and adolescents for creative life in the new millennium, a teacher should display a special level of creativity. The aim of the study presented in this article was to identify the relationship between the creative attitude and metalearning competence of first-year pedagogy students. The results of the study show a statistically significant relationship between the creative attitude and metalearning competence level of pedagogy students.
The objective of my project entitled “Creating my own text-book - I know what I want to learn and how” was to develop children’s awareness of a broadly defined ability to learn, through the creation of their own textbooks, which they would like to use at school. The main aim of the research described below was to gain an understanding of what children them-selves would consider to be an ideal textbook from which to learn, what they would really like to learn about, and what are their interests and needs in terms of learning at school. Twenty-seven pupils from the III-rd grade of primary school participated in the project. The educational project lasted five months. A basic assumption of the research was that pupils have their own personal knowledge with regard to the content of what they would like to be taught at school. Conclusions from the research were formulated on the basis of interviews carried out with the children and an analysis of the textbooks which they created. The results show that the pupils who participated in the educational project are able to describe what their ideal school textbook should be like. The objective of the present paper is to present the conclusions drawn from the educational project from the perspective of developing meta-learning skills in young, school-aged children.
