The morphological changes in the ovaries of 20 normal and 20 post pill amenorrhea cases were studied via laparoscopy. Ovarian biopsies were taken in some of them to study the histopathological changes. Again endometrial biopsies were taken to study the endometrial picture in cases of post pill amenorrhea and to determine the stage of the menstrual cycle in the normal controls. The ovaries were morphologically active in 13 normal control cases encountered during the late proliferative and the secretory phase. The ovaries in all cases of post pill amenorrhea, on the other hand, were resting and inactive. Ovarian biopsies confirmed the morphological findings. Regarding the endometrial biopsies, histological patterns coincided with the ovarian morphological findings in the normal controls. While the endometrium was resting in 14 and atrophic in 6 cases of post pill amenorrhea. The significance of these results were discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
