This research aimed to identify the characteristics and performance of Chinese tourists in Indonesia. To understand the characteristics of Chinese tourists, data were obtained from Passenger Exit Survey (PES) in 2016. Meanwhile, to know the performance of Chinese tourists, data were derived from monthly reports of Inbound Tourist Arrival from 2013-2017. Data and information were mostly obtained through literature studies and unstructured interviews with stakeholders and researchers at the Ministry of Tourism. This research finds several characteristics of Chinese tourists in Indonesia. Most of them are between 25-44 age group and work as professionals, managers, and employees. They like to come in groups with around seven days of stay. Moreover, they choose star hotels as the primary choice for accommodation. On average, they spend USD1.018 during their visit to Indonesia. Most of them get information about Indonesian tourism and destinations from friends/family and social media. However, the number of Chinese tourist to Indonesia has doubled in the last four years. The high penetration of the Chinese tourists takes place in Bali while the massive growth occurs in Manado.
Tourism in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has been considered important for national earning and local community development. As a conservation area, the development of tourism in Bromo Tengger Semeru should consider conservation principles. The purpose of this research is to identify the challenges of developing tourism events in TNBTS especially dealing with sustainable development. The research method used is qualitative method with descriptive analysis technique. In-depth interviews were conducted to explore the perceptions of the government, organizer, and community regarding the conduct of tourism event in TNBTS. The literature study was conducted to provide more complete data and information. Furthermore, researcher conduct field observations twice, the first observation was during the Yadnya Kasada event and the second one was on normal days. This research has successfully identified three challenges of tourism event development in TNBTS namely the institutional, event sustainability, and rivalry with competitors.
It is known that the internet altered the business model of the travel industry. Due to the exponential growth of its' users, several companies established online booking services. For instance, Traveloka.com and Tiket.com in airline ticket booking and the Rajakamar.com in hotel reservation. Online Travel Agencies (OTA) have been gaining important attention in recent years. Yet, limited literature focuses on discussing the development of such services in Indonesia. The research's purpose was to analyze the development of OTAs in Indonesia, particularly in its services, employment, and users. The study involves 52 Indonesian OTAs. A structured interview and website-based observation had been done. The results show that only a few OTAs offer direct payment system, while most agencies located in the capital city, Jakarta. Moreover, most of OTAs is on the Business-to-Consumer state. Meanwhile, most of the founders were an entrepreneur with information and technology background. Furthermore, the most popular service offered was the tour and travel ticket sale. There are several suggestions outlined for future research and practical implications for OTAs.
As a world-class tourism destination, Indonesia is facing challenges in providing competent tourism human capital. Currently, the majority of tourism labor in Indonesia are low levels of education and only a few of them are graduated from higher education. Empirically, numerous studies suggest that many graduates from various tourism schools in several countries preferred to not opt for the tourism careers. This study aims to discover and analyze the perceptions and attitudes of final year students majoring in tourism and hospitality in Indonesia to pursue a career in the tourism industry. Using online distributed questionnaire through snowball sampling method, this study obtained 422 completed responses of tourism and hospitality undergraduates from Jakarta, Bandung, Lombok, Makassar, Palembang, Bali, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, and Batam. The collected data then analyzed by Importance Performance Analysis and cross-tabulation analysis. This study found that the career advancement and salaries were two factors in the industry considered as important factors but got a bad perception. However, the nature of work of tourism industry which offering enjoyable and fun environment are considered important and earned positive perception. This study also presents some implications, mainly for the tourism industry in Indonesia.
Seiring dengan perkembangan jaman dan kemajuan teknologi telah memunculkan berbagai Platform Sharing Economy. Platform yang terkenal saat ini GOJEK dan GRAB (transportasi online) serta AIRBNB (Penyediaan Akomodasi) menawarkan kemudahan dan efisiensi untuk menarik minat konsumen. Namun keberadaan sharing platform ini tidak serta merta diterima oleh pemilik usaha konvensional yang sudah ada sebelumnya. Hal ini terjadi karena, jenis usaha yang dijalankan oleh sharing platform umumnya merupakan usaha konvensional yang mengalami penambahan nilai dengan menggunakan teknologi informasi. Untuk mengidentifikasi potensi dampak kemunculan fenomena sharing platform terhadap kondisi industri pariwisata khususnya usaha penyedia jasa akomodasi di Provinsi DKI Jakarta digunakan pendekatan deskriptif dengan mengeksplorasi fenomena sosial melalui studi kepustakaan, Focus Group Discussion serta peramalan (forecast). Berdasarkan data Airbnb sampai Juli 2018 terdapat 5.494 listing host dengan 254 host atau 7% nya merupakan super listing host yang memiliki tidak hanya 1 unit akomodasi. Pendapatan Airbnb tercatat mencapai Rp. 14,4 miliar. Jumlah ini meningkat 6,25% per bulan. Data pengguna Airbnb juga menunjukkan komposisi tamu asing dan domestik perbedaannya semakin tipis. Hasil peramalan menggunakan data tingkat penghunian kamar (TPK), diperkirakan jenis listing Entire Home akan memiliki TPK yang sama dengan hotel bintang pada Juni 2023 dan hotel non bintang pada bulan November 2023. Potensi penerimaan pajak dari Airbnb dapat mencapai Rp. 1,5 milyar per bulan. Masih minimnya peraturan mengenai digital platform sehingga perlu adanya perundangan-undangan khusus membahas digital platform, kebijakan zonasi pemilik Airbnb, pengawasan sosial serta lingkungan dan monitoring penggunaan platform Airbnb.
