Etlingera elatior have many biological properties. Thus, we aim to isolate and to evaluate radical scavenger potency of compounds from Etlingera elatior fruits and antidiabetic potency of the ethanol fruits extract. E. elatior fruits were collected from the Wolasi Forest, South East Sulawesi. The isolation was carried out by using chromatography technique and the compound structures were evaluated by interpreting spectroscopic data (FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR). The radical scavenger activity was evaluated towards DPPH (1,1-diphenyl 2-picryl-hydrazyl) radicals. Antidiabetic activity was carried out in experimental animals, as well as the histopathology of pancreatic organ. Four aromatic compounds have been isolated and identified, quercetin (1) as flavonoid, firstly reported from E.elatior fruits, p-coumaric acid (2), vanilic acid (3), and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (4). Radical scavenger potency of quercetin> vanilic acid>p-hydroxybenzoic acid>p-coumaric acid> the extract. Ethanol extract of Wualae fruits showed activity as antidiabetic and protective effect to beta cell at concentration 200; 300; and 400mg/kgBw, with most effective in decreasing plasma glucose and protecting beta cell was 400 mg/KgBw. E.elatior fruits possess pronounced radical scavenger and anti-diabetic properties which may be due to the presence quercetin in the plant. Therefore, the fruit’s extract can be further developed for the cosmetics and diabetic management.
This studies aims to: (1) determine the level of knowledge and skills of farmers in managing patchouli farming in Sambahule Village, Baito District, South Konawe Regency, (2) determine the level of farmers' income in patchouli farming in Sambahule Village, Baito District, South Konawe Regency, (3) knowing the relationship between the level of knowledge and skills of farmers with the level of income of farmers in patchouli farming. This research was conducted in Sambahule Village, Baito District, Konawe Selatan Regency which was carried out from September 2021 to January 2022 with a total of 45 respondents who were determined using simple random sampling technique. Data analysis used descriptive statistical methods (class interval) and nonparametric inferential (spearman rank). with the help of SPSS 16 software. The results of this study indicate that (1) the level of knowledge and skills of farmers in managing patchouli farming is in good category (2) farmers' income in patchouli farming is in low category (3) there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and skills of farmers with the level of farmers' income in patchouli farming.
The fisheries sector plays a vital role in developing and providing business and employment opportunities to support the community and regional economy. Kekar tilapia is one of the freshwater fish farming commodities in the fisheries business sector and relatively new tilapia variety with the advantages of a thick (stocky) and a more comprehensive body shape with a smaller head than others tilapia. This case study aimed to determine the income and feasibility of kekar tilapia farming in the South Konawe Regency, explicitly studying the UKM Empang Sari (Small and Medium Enterprise/SME of Empang Sari). Research variables included cost components (fixed and variable costs) and revenue components (production and selling price). The data were analyzed using income and business feasibility analyses. The study results reveal that tilapia fish farming in South Konawe Regency is profitable and feasible, with IDR 4.355.000 per production cycle or IDR 13.066.000 per year with an R/C ratio of 1.6. Hence, it is suggested that UKM Empang Sari increase the kekar tilapia cultivation.
