Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) is an animal model of Guillain-Barré syndrome, characterized by inflammation and demyelination of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Daintain/allograft inflammatory factor-1 (daintain/AIF-1) is a novel interferon-gamma-inducible protein expressed by macrophages during organ specific autoimmune diseases. To study the involvement of daintain/AIF-1 in EAN we induced EAN in Lewis rats by immunizing with bovine PNS myelin (BPM) and complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA). The expression of daintain/AIF-1 was examined in the spleen, peripheral nerves and sera during the course of EAN by immunohistochemistry and radioimunoassay (RIA). The expression of daintain/AIF-1 in the spleen and in the sciatic nerves peaked at the preclinical stage (day 7 post immunization (p.i.)) and at the height (day 15 p.i.) of clinical EAN, consistent with a disease promoting role for daintain/AIF-1. Daintain/AIF-1 expressing cells represented a subset of ED1+ or CD11b/c+ mononuclear cells. A significant increase of daintain/AIF-1-like immunoreactivity in sera occurred at the preclinical stage of EAN. Taken together, these data indicate that daintain/AIF-1 may play a proinflammatory role in the pathogenesis of EAN.
A total of 450 milk samples including both 272 buffalo and 178 cattle were randomly collected in and around District Lahore to study the incidence of mastitis and antibiotic sensitivity by performing Culture and Sensitivity test. The prevalence of mastitis in buffalo was found 20.98% while in cattle 24.71%. The prevalence of both Clinical and subclincal mastitis in buffalo were 40.35%, 59.64% and in cattle 61.26%, 30.63% respectively. The milk samples mixed with both mucus and blood in buffalo and cattle were 5.51% and 4.49% respectively. Quarters wise prevalence was 47.72%, 11.36%, 36.36% and 4.54% in the left fore, left hind, right fore and right hind quarters in cattle while In buffaloes, the prevalence was 0%, 68.96%, 11.49% and 19.54% in the left fore, left hind, right fore and right hind quarters respectively. The Ciprofloxacin antibiotic was found highly Sensitive in buffalo while Gentamicin in cattle.
This study aims to find out the causes of misconceptions on the high school students in the subject matter of dynamic circuit through mixed method. The population of this study is all students of class XII SMAN 2 Banda Aceh. The sample was chosen by random sampling, so that there were 21 students for the control class and 21 students for the experimental class. Data collection was done by questionnaire technique in the form of questionnaire about the cause of misconceptions which is called the Instrument for Identifying the Causes of Misconceptions (IICM) consisted of 35 items was developed by researchers with validity and reliability indices respectively 0.75 and 0.85. The results of data analysis show that the largest percentage of causes of misconception is by students and by context. Thus it can be concluded that the cause of misconception among high school students for dynamic electrical circuitry is caused by the student’s self as well as the context. The causes of misconceptions in students are more at the stage of cognitive development of students and in most contexts caused by feelings of pleasure/displeasure or free/depressed.
ABSTRACT. Almost a half million fishers in Bangladesh are predominantly reliant on the hilsa shad (Tenualosa ilisha) fishery in the Meghna River and estuarine ecosystem. This paper adopts a broadened concept of social-ecological traps to frame the complex dynamics that emerge from social and ecological interactions in this highly natural resource-dependent social-ecological system (SES). We analyze how endogenous self-reinforcing processes in the system and poor initial conditions, particularly debt and lack of livelihood options outside fisheries, keep fishing households in poverty. We identify a policy decision in favor of incentive-based fisheries management as a critical juncture that influenced a trajectory of recovery in hilsa shad stocks in this complex adaptive system. Normative assessment of stakeholder perceptions indicates that fishers perceive a nominal improvement in well-being as a result of this policy. Compensation in return for compliance with a seasonal fishing ban in sanctuary areas does not, however, disrupt trap dynamics perpetuating the cycle of poverty, social exclusion, and political disempowerment in which fishing households are entrenched. Poverty and lack of alternative livelihood opportunities remain significant reasons for noncompliance with the ban as long as fishers do not have any meaningful representation in resource management and decision making. A secured tenure system through adaptive comanagement involving fishers in monitoring and enforcement of compliance with fishing bans, supported by sustainable finance for livelihood improvements outside of natural resource exploitation and predicated on responsive and accountable institutions for and by people who depend on the fishery, can form the foundation for local stewardship in a unique demonstration of contemporary largescale open-water fisheries governance in this complex SES.
Ocular ultrasound is now in increasing demand in routine ophthalmic clinical practice not only because it is noninvasive but also because of ever-advancing technology providing higher resolution imaging. It is however a difficult branch of ophthalmic investigations to grasp, as it requires a high skill level to interface with the technology and provide accurate interpretation of images for ophthalmic diagnosis and management. It is even more labor intensive to teach ocular ultrasound to another fellow clinician. One of the fundamental skills that proved difficult to learn and teach is the need for the examiner to “mentally convert” 2-dimensional B-scan images into 3-dimensional (3D) interpretations. An additional challenge is the requirement to carry out this task in real time. We have developed a novel approach to teach ocular ultrasound by using a novel 3D ocular model. A 3D virtual model is built using widely available, open source, software. The model is then used to generate movie clips simulating different movements and orientations of the scanner head. Using Blender, Quicktime motion clips are choreographed and collated into interactive quizzes and other pertinent pedagogical media. The process involves scripting motion vectors, rotation, and tracking of both the virtual stereo camera and the model. The resulting sequence is then rendered for twinned right- and left-eye views. Finally, the twinned views are synchronized and combined in a format compatible with the stereo projection apparatus. This new model will help the student with spatial awareness and allow for assimilation of this awareness into clinical practice. It will also help with grasping the nomenclature used in ocular ultrasound as well as helping with localization of lesions and obtaining the best possible images for echographic diagnosis, accurate measurements, and reporting.
