BackgroundMonteggia fracture-dislocation is rare in children. Various reports attest to its rarity, while recording the many variant of this injury. It is, therefore, easy to miss the diagnosis in the absence of proper clinical examination and radiographs.Case ReportThis report highlights two rare variants of Monteggia fracture-dislocation seen in children. The first case was a 12-year old girl alleged to have fallen from a 15- feet tall tree and sustaining a combined type III Monteggia injury with ipsilateral Type II Salter-Harris injury of distal end radius with a metaphyseal fracture of the distal third of the ulna. The second case was a 13-year old who had sustained a closed fracture of atypical Type I Monteggia hybrid lesion, in a road traffic accident.ConclusionThis report highlights the rare variants of Monteggia fracture dislocation which could have been missed without proper clinical examinations and radiographs.
Industrial training is one of the programs implemented by Polytechnics to expose students to the real concept of working environment. In industrial training, students will acquire certain skills that are relevant to the field being taken. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the contribution of industrial training to the improvement of the students' skills in Polytechnic. In addition, this study also wants to identify the scope of work provided by the industry and career opportunities after completing the training. A total of 506 respondents from Polytechnic Muadzam Shah, Pahang training students for the December 2017 session were selected for this study. Data were analyzed descriptively using SPSS software. The results showed that the respondents' responses to the skills exposed by the industry were very encouraging. All the measured skills showed a mean score of more than 4.0. For the percentage level of the scope of work, more than 50 per cent of the respondents get a scope of work that satisfies the needs and skills of their field of study. Similarly, career opportunities after completion of industrial training show that more than half of respondents get the opportunity. Overall, industrial training has been able to improve the future skills and opportunities of the students. Abstrak Latihan industri merupakan salah satu program yang dilaksanakan oleh Politeknik untuk mendedahkan kepada pelajar dengan konsep sebenar alam pekerjaan. Dalam latihan industri, para pelajar akan memperolehi kemahiran-kemahiran tertentu yang bersesuaian dengan bidang yang diambil. Oleh itu, kajian ini dilaksanakan untuk menilai sumbangan latihan industri terhadap peningkatan kemahiran pelajar-pelajar di Politeknik. Di samping itu, kajian ini ini juga ingin mengenalpasti tahap skop kerja yang diberikan oleh pihak industri dan peluang kerjaya selepas tamat latihan tersebut. Seramai 506 responden yang terdiri daripada pelajar latihan industri Politeknik Muadzam Shah, Pahang bagi sesi Disember 2017 dipilih bagi kajian ini. Data dianalisis secara diskriptif menggunakan perisian SPSS. Hasil kajian menunjukkan maklumbalas responden terhadap kemahiran yang di dedahkan oleh pihak industri amat memberangsangkan. Semua kemahiran yang diukur menunjukkan skor min melebihi 4.0. Bagi tahap peratusan skop kerja pula, lebih daripada 50 peratus daripada responden mendapat skop kerja yang memenuhi keperluan dan kemahiran bidang pengajian mereka. Begitu juga dengan kadar peluang kerjaya selepas tamat latihan industri yang menunjukkan lebih daripada separuh responden mendapat peluang tersebut. Secara keseluruhanya, latihan industri yang dijalankan telah dapat meningkatkan kemahiran dan peluang pelajar dimasa hadapan.
The implementation of e-learning has been executed in institutions of higher learning (IPT) including Polytechnic Malaysia. Student readiness for this method is an indicator of success or failure in this learning method. This readiness factor has many aspects to consider. Therefore, this study is conducted to identify the level of readiness of polytechnic diploma students in the aspects of computer user attitude, computer literacy, facilities and access to technology. This study used a quantitative approaches to data collection. A total of 398 respondents were selected by combination techniques between multiple layers and groups. Instrument questionnaire was developed and modified for the purpose of obtaining data of the study. The findings on the level of e-learning readiness of computer user attitude factors were high with a mean value of 4.09. For computer literacy factor, it is in a simple stage with mean value of 3.57. The findings also showed that the level of e-learning readiness of the computer facilities factor was moderate with a mean value of 3.56. While the level of readiness through technology access factor is high with a mean value of 3.70. Overall, the level of e-learning based on all factors is at a high level with a mean value of 3.75. It is hoped that this study will provide a clear explanation on the level of readiness of polytechnic students on e-learning methods so that appropriate actions can be implemented in line with the government's efforts in empowering global online learning. Pelaksanaan e-pembelajaran telah dimplimentasikan di institusi pengajian tinggi (IPT) termasuk Politeknik Malaysia. Kesediaan pelajar terhadap e-pembelajaran merupakan indikator kepada kejayaan atau kegagalan kaedah ini. Faktor kesediaan ini pula mempunyai pelbagai aspek yang perlu dipertimbangkan. Justeru itu, kajian ini dijalankan bagi mengenalpasti tahap kesediaan pelajar diploma politeknik dari aspek sikap kepenggunaan, literasi komputer, fasiliti dan akses teknologi. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Seramai 398 responden yang dipilih secara teknik gabungan antara rawak berlapis dan berkelompok. Instrumen soal selidik dibangunkan dan diubahsuai bagi tujuan mendapatkan data kajian. Dapatan kajian mengenai tahap kesediaan e-pembelajaran dari faktor sikap kepenggunaan komputer adalah tinggi dengan nilai min 4.09. Bagi faktor literasi komputer pula adalah pada tahap sederhana dengan nilai min 3.57. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan tahap kesediaan e-pembelajaran dari faktor fasiliti komputer adalah sederhana dengan nilai min 3.56. Manakala tahap kesediaan melalui faktor akses teknologi pula adalah tinggi dengan nilai min 3.70. Keseluruhannya, tahap e-pembelajaran berdasarkan semua faktor ada adalah pada tahap yang tinggi dengan nilai min 3.75. Diharapkan kajian ini akan dapat memberikan penerangan yang jelas tentang tahap kesediaan pelajar politeknik terhadap kaedah epembelajaran agar tindakan yang sewajarnya dapat dilaksanakan sesuai dengan usaha kerajaan dalam memperkasakan pembelajaran dalam talian tahap global
This study was conducted to identify the extent to which the influence of demographic factors in predicting student readiness factors in implementing e-learning methods. A quantitative approach was used and a total of 398 respondents were involved by using the sampling method through a combination technique between multiple layers and groups. Instrument questionnaire was developed and modified for the purpose of obtaining data of the study. The findings found that there are certain significant demographic factors in predicting computer user attitude, computer literacy, computer facilities and technology access. Demographic factors based on polytechnic students in predicting computer user attitude are races (Malay and India), secondary education (technical), academic standards (STPM / Matriculation), the field of study (information technology and commerce) and years of study (first year). While the demographic factors on polytechnic students in predicting computer literacy factors are races (India), secondary education (vocational), academic level (SPM / SPMV), the field of study (information technology, tourism and hospitality also engineering) and year of study (first, second and third year). For demographic factors based on polytechnics, the number of student enrollment (the number of students are less than 1000 and the number of students between 3000 and 4000) is significant in predicting computer facilities and technology access. It is hoped that this study will be able to provide a clear explanation of the demographic influence that needs to be considered so that the implementation of e-learning approach can achieve the real purpose. This is in line with government policy which hopes this approach can be strengthened to a global level. Kajian ini dijalankan bagi mengenalpasti sejauhmana pengaruh faktor demografi dalam meramal faktor kesediaan pelajar dalam mengimplimentasikan kaedah e-pembelajaran. Pendekatan kuantitatif digunakan dan seramai 398 responden telah terlibat dengan menggunakan kaedah persampelan melalui teknik gabungan antara rawak berlapis dan berkelompok. Instrumen soal selidik dibangunkan dan diubahsuai bagi tujuan mendapatkan data kajian. Hasil kajian mendapati terdapat beberapa faktor demografi tertentu yang signifikan dalam meramal faktor sikap kepenggunaan komputer, literasi komputer, fasiliti komputer dan akses teknologi. Faktor demografi yang berdasarkan diri pelajar politeknik yang signifikan dalam meramal faktor sikap kepenggunaan komputer ialah kaum (melayu dan india), aliran pendidikan menengah (teknik), taraf akademik (STPM/Matrik), bidang pengajian (teknologi maklumat dan perdagangan) dan tahun pengajian (tahun pertama). Manakala faktor demografi yang berdasarkan diri pelajar politeknik yang signifikan dalam meramal faktor literasi komputer ialah kaum (india), aliran pendidikan menengah (vokasional), taraf akademik (SPM/SPMV), bidang pengajian (teknologi maklumat, pelancongan dan hospitaliti serta kejuruteraan) dan tahun pengajian (tahun pertama, kedua dan ketiga). Faktor demografi yang berdasarkan politeknik, iaitu jumlah enrolmen pelajar (jumlah pelajar kurang dari 1000 orang dan jumlah pelajar antara 3000 hingga 4000) adalah signifikan dalam meramal faktor fasiliti komputer dan akses teknologi. Diharapkan kajian ini akan dapat memberikan penerangan yang jelas tentang pengaruh demografi yang perlu dipertimbangkan agar perlaksanaan pendekatan e-pembelajaran dapat mencapai tujuan yang sebenarnya. Ini adalah bersesuaian dengan dasar kerajaan yang mengharapkan pendekatan ini dapat diperkasakan sehingga ke tahap global.
