ChemInform Abstract The title compounds (I) are prepared by standard procedures and the syntheses are described in detail. The occurrence of different types of ionic equilibria is observed in low polar solvents. The influence exerted by the polarities of different solvents and by different concentrations of the dyes (I) on the absorption spectra are investigated. These investigations reveal that the coloring of the dyes is determined by their tendency to form associated ion pairs. In low polar solvents these ion pairs adopt a dimeric sandwich-like orientation. The tendency to form ion pairs is increased by introduction of Cl into the positions 6,6' and 6,6'8,8' and by a phenyl group in the meso position.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
