The eects of urea fertilization (1 g/l) on the photosynthetic rate and a-and b-asarone accumulation in the leaves of a clonal triploid of Acorus calamus L. were investigated. Urea addition signi®cantly increased (up to ca. 50%) the photosynthesis rate vs. incident light (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density), chlorophylls and carotenoids, proteins and amino nitrogen contents. Urea application signi®cantly increased the tyrosine and b-asarone contents (ca. 30%) but it decreased those of phenylalanine and a-asarone. # 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
