Pigeon coccidiosis is caused by Eimeria spp; a protozoan parasite which limits birds’ productivity by causing severe illness. The current study was carried out to investigate the prevalence of coccidiosis on domestic pigeon in Libya. Intestinal contents of 100 pigeons (Columba livia domestica Gmelin, 1789) were collected within a period of five months; January to May 2020. The intestinal content was examined to detect of coccidian oocysts infection on the randomly selected birds. A total of 100 faecal samples were investigated with two methods;Willis-Schaafs (qualitative) and McMaster’s (quantitative). The results obtained showed that the number of infected Pigeons was 72 pigeons (72%) of the total number of Pigeons. The prevalence was higher in female than that of males, where the total of infected females was 50 (69.4 %) and infected males was 22 (30.6%). The results showed that the highest incidence of Eimeria labbeana was observed in the young pigeons than that of adults, where the total number of young pigeons was 66 (91.7 %), and adult pigeon was 6 (8.3 %).
Hematology can be a useful tool for monitoring health status, detecting illness, and following the progress of disease and response to therapy. Despite advances in fish medicine in recent years, interpretation of fish hematology often is hampered by a lack of meaningful reference values and the bewildering diversity of fish species. Hematology is the science of studying the anatomical, physiological, and pathological aspects of blood. This study gives valuable information on fish Tilapia zillii, Hematological indices (RBC, WBC, Hct, Hb, MCV, MCH, MCHC, GRA, MON, LYM, and PLT) were measured in blood in samples from 30 adult fish captured from (Ain Elmajdob lake), Benghazi city. Statistical analysis revealed that white blood cells were found depending on the length and weight of Tilapia zillii as studied by regression of white blood cells on length and weight of Tilapia zillii. Moreover, Lymphocytes and Monocytes increased with the increase in weight, as studied by regression of Lymphocytes and Monocytes on the length and weight of Tilapia zillii. Nevertheless, not significant in Red blood cells, Hemoglobin, Haematocrit, Mean corpuscular volume, Mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, and platelets.
The prolactin hormone (PRL) has a distinct activity among the rest of the hormones, so this study conducted to measure the level of this hormone and its relationship with Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH). The study performed on a group of 30 women with a wide age range in the city of Tocra (east of Benghazi) to find out the percentage of PRL hormone and the extent of its effect on the FSH And LH hormones, as well as on fertility in these women. The results showed that 24 samples of the total samples, with a rate of 80%, had a normal concentration of PRL hormone, and 6 samples of the total samples, and by 20%, suffered an increase in the concentration of the PRL hormone. The concentration of FSH and LH was measured for the same samples for which the PRL hormone was measured, and the statistical analysis using the T test at significant values (P <0.05) showed that prolactin has a clear significant effect on the luteinizing hormone, while it has a slight effect of a non-significant value on the FSH. . Likewise, for average ages with FSH, LH, and PRL, there were strong significant differences between all hormones and age. This study concluded that the high PRL hormone might be a cause of delayed childbearing through its effect on the FSH hormones.
