Problematic alcohol use has individual, community, and global consequences. The efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy in treating alcohol use disorders is well documented. This chapter provides an overview of alcohol use disorders as well as nondiagnostic, problematic alcohol behaviors. The foundations of several CBT interventions, and treatment implications for comorbid mental health diagnoses, are also discussed, along with the integration of pharmacotherapy and technological supports.
