The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of three entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) (Beauveria bassiana, Cladosporium cladosporioides, and Verticillium alfalfae) on the aphid species, Metopolophium dirhodum (Walker) (Hemiptera: Aphididae). The selected EPF were isolated from the agricultural soil of the National Institute of Plant Protection (INPV) in Constantine, Algeria, and were tested against the aphid insects that were collected from the same area. The aphid species M. dirhodum were exposed to each fungal spore suspensions 10 7 conidia/ml for 10 s. Percent mortality was recorded at 1, 3, 5, and 7 days post treatment. Percentage mortalities, 7 days post treatment, were 95.83, 63.98, and 51.83% by B. bassiana, C. cladosporioides, and V. alfalfae, respectively. The higher protease activities were observed for isolate V. alfalfae with 95 U/ml, followed by B. bassiana with 38.26 U/ml, and finally C. cladosporioides with 35, 65 U/ml. The results presented in this study revealed that there was no relation between high alkaline protease activities and high virulence isolates.
Through a 3-year survey of 9 stations in North East of Algeria, we recorded 16 species of grasshopper belonging to thefamily Pamphagidae. The National Park of Belezma, near Batna city, appears to be the richest region for this family, with10 species. Notably, Paracinipe sulphuripes, only known from Djelfa, is present at Belezma, showing unexpected rela-tionship between these two areas, separated by 280 km. Within the Pamphagus djelfensis complex, a new species is de-scribed, P. batnensis Benkenana & Petit, easily distinguishable by its epiphallic characters. Taking into account severalstudies dealing with other Algerian stations, we provide certain climatic constraints of most species, as illustrated by bio-climagrams. We show that the semi-arid stage with fresh winter and sub-humid stage with cold winter correspond to the most suitable conditions for this family.
Forensic entomology is based on the use of scavenging insects to estimate the time of death in the course of judicial inquiries and allows in some cases specify the circumstances of death. This technique is based on solid scientifi c basis and is now commonly used as part of criminal cases.This process involves the chemical and physical breakdown of tissue by microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria.The decomposition of animal body, it is known that there are fi ve stages; fresh corpse, rot, fermentation, dehydration and skeleton. Tracking all stages of decomposition of dog body in the period from 15 February to 26 April 2018. With the collection of 1135 insects (whole individuals and larvae) over the animal's corpse and around it, 21 insects belonging to three orders were identifi ed: Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera.The results of this study add data to forensic entomology in Algeria and its potential for use in judicial investigations.
The authors describe Pamphagus milevitanus n. sp. occurring in the North and South highlands of Constantine, in Mila, Setif and Oum-el Bouaghi provinces, where it is fairly common. They compare the characters of this species with those of the most related species of the genus and present a complete plate and a key to all the species of the genus Pamphagus known to date.
