The article deals with some new challenges that foreign language (FL) teachers face in the classroom while teaching the students of Generation Z. It also deals with edutainment as one of the methods in coping with those challenges. Nowadays Generation Z is the only generation of “digital natives” who have used digital technology since a very young age and are comfortable with the Internet and social media. These students like to experiment in learning, prefer visual learning, are good team players, they tend to have short attention spans, and prefer edutainment. Generation Z students appreciate learning if they consider it interactive with games and fun activities incorporated into the FL and curriculum. FL teachers need to use more technology in their teaching strategies. Teachers need to update their teaching strategies. They need to adopt more technology-based tasks, including visual content and to give students opportunities to feedback. It’s a good idea to start a class blog and think of reasons how students can use the class blog. Generation Z are multi-taskers so FL teacher can incorporate pictures, sounds, video into all the teaching activities. Students can also have listening, writing and speaking activities at the same time. FL teacher can also use such applications and resources as Kahoot!, Socrative, Pole Everywhere, Quizlet, YouTube, Instagram etc.
The article reveals the findings from a survey examining students’ perceptions of corrective feedback involving six groups of the first- through fifth-year ESL students enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in English Language and Literature, Applied Linguistics, International Law, and International Communication and Global Media. The study attempts to reveal students’ perceptions of corrective feedback, as well as its perceived effectiveness and psychological relevance, which are analyzed on the basis of students’ answers. The aim of this survey-based research was to explore ESL students’ preferences for the amount and type of corrective feedback in speaking/reading and develop a method to help educators effectively choose the types of corrective feedback on the basis of their students’ level of English. In order to reinforce the study with substantial theoretical evidence, each type of corrective feedback was characterized on the basis of a rigorous review of related evidence-focused literature. The survey, which was administered to 78 ESL students at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi National University, Ukraine, demonstrated a number of discrepancies in students’ preferences and attitudes. Their responses constituted grounds for assessing and ranking the prevalent verbal correction techniques in ESL teaching according to their perceived relevance. The implications of the current study could be taken into consideration by ESL teachers for determining an optimal set of error correction techniques in their own classrooms on the basis of their students’ level of English.
The aim of the work is the development of an algorithm of reverse engineering for standardized products. To create metrological models, and even more to solve the complex task of reverse engineering, it is necessary to have not only metrolo gical measurements and calculations using CAD, but also heuristic techniques that allow to recreate the conceptual model and design a new product instead of the damaged one taking into account real technological capabilities. These heuristic techniques are the selection of elements, the establishment of interrelations between elements, the identification of interrelated and independent groups of elements, the definition of inputs and outputs of the system, the use of models in the form of matrices and graphs. The relationship between realistic, conceptual, ideal and normative models is found in the case when the input data are the actual dimensions of the existing product, which are measured with certain errors. As a result of the work it is obtained the heuristic algorithm of the reverse engineering process for gear transmission; it is established that in order to determine the parameters of an ideal model, along with metrological measurements that allow us to find a realistic experimental model, it is necessary to use heuristic techniques a nd CAD; for complex engineering products with a high degree of standardization, reverse engineering is connected first of all with the use of databases of standard parts, elements of parts, steel grades, and the standard methods of calculation contained in CAE modules.
