Wealth sustainability has always remained a policy concern for policymakers in developing economies like Pakistan. This study has filled the gap by investigating weak sustainability and determinants of wealth accumulation for 46 years, from 1972 to 2017, in Pakistan. Wealth sustainability has been analyzed through the Genuine Savings (GS) Index. Moreover, the auto-regressive distributive lag (ARDL) model has been applied to find out the effects of wealth determining factors ̶ which include Government expenditure, real gross domestic product (GDP),real money market rate, life expectancy, and real money supply ̶ over wealth accumulation. Results of the GS estimate imply that during the reporting period, the economy is sustainable, and ARDL results show that the effects of government expenditure, real gross domestic product(GDP), and life expectancy on wealth accumulation are significant and positive in the long run, the effect of interest rate is positive but insignificant.
This study explores whether Pakistan's current account deficit-acted as a mediator in the linkage between the devaluation of the currency and the expansion of the economy from 1972 to 2016. All the variables have been shown to have a heterogeneous order of integration by using the Augmented Ducky Fuller (ADF), Phillips-Perron (PP), and Ng-Parron unit root tests. As shown in this article, the Auto regressive Distributive Lag Model (ARDL) is used to figure out how the variables are linked. The results clearly demonstrate that the current account balance fully mediates the relationship between devaluation of the currency and economic growth with a coefficient value of -0.12. Findings show that devaluation of the currency negatively affects the current account balance and economic growth. Moreover, through an indirect channel, the devaluation negatively affects the current account balance, which hampers economic growth.
This study investigates the role of inflation as a mediator between currency depreciation and economic growth in Pakistan from 1972 to 2016. Using the Ng-Parron unit root test, the stationarity of the variables is determined. The outcomes of Ng-Parron unit root tests indicate that all variables in the model exhibit mix-order integration. This paper also employs the Autoregressive Distributive Lag Model (ARDL) to evaluate the relationship between currency depreciation, inflation, and economic expansion. The results show very clearly that the inflation rate does not play a role in the link between currency depreciation and economic growth in the case of Pakistan.
The purpose of this study is to look into the relationship between knowledge spillover, productivity differences, and the impact of quality of life in different countries. In order to accomplish this goal, the econometric technique known as Cross Sectional Augmented Autoregressive Distributive Lag (CS-ARDL) is utilized throughout this work. The findings point to the existence of complementarities between knowledge spillovers and the factors of quality of life in terms of their influence on total factor productivity. The findings imply that there is a contribution of knowledge spillovers to the national level of production. On the other hand, the relationship between knowledge spillovers and domestic productivity is contingent on a predetermined level of human capital as well as economic liberty. Hence, countries with more developed human capital and high economic freedom get more benefited from knowledge spillovers. This study has far-reaching ramifications. These findings can be used by policymakers to develop policies and initiatives that emphasize quality of life improvements, provide a conducive climate for knowledge spillover, and support productivity development across nations. Such approaches could help reduce economic inequities and propel global progress toward sustainable and inclusive growth.
This study looks into how the devaluation of the Pakistani currency affected remittances (REM) and economic growth (EG) in Pakistan. The study also looks at how REM affects the link between the devaluation of the currency and the growth of the economy in Pakistan Over the course of 45 years, from 1972 to 2016. The study uses Autoregressive Distributive Lag Model (ARDL) for examining the relationship. This study uses sensitivity analysis and chooses among different econometric techniques, which take into account the endogeneity problem. The results show that remittances partially mediate the relationship between the devaluation of currency and economic growth. Moreover, a one unit rise in REM leads to a 0.47 unit decrease in EG.
