Afin de sélectionner les plantes médicinales utilisées en médecine populaire pour traiter la Covid-19, une enquête en ligne a été menée dans différentes régions du nord de l’Algérie. Cinq cent personnes, dont 46 % atteintes de la Covid-19, appartenant à des groupes fermés sur Facebook, ont participé à cette étude. Les questions portaient sur des données socio-économiques des participants et leurs perceptions de l’utilisation des plantes médicinales pour prévenir la Covid-19. Les données de cette enquête ont montré qu’une grande partie de la population algérienne utilise les plantes médicinales pour se protéger de la Covid-19. Les participants ont utilisé 22 espèces appartenant à 12 familles pour traiter la Covid-19. Les plantes médicinales cumulées aux médicaments antiviraux au début du traitement améliorent la thérapie contre la Covid-19. La combinaison de la phytothérapie et de la médecine conventionnelle pourrait constituer une approche alternative au traitement de la Covid-19 à l’avenir.
Background Catecholamine-induced cardiogenic shock is a rare manifestation of paragangliomas. The high mortality rate of this condition makes the immediate, multidisciplinary approach mandatory. Case Report We report a case of an 18-year-old woman with a retroperitoneal secreting paraganglioma, complicated with a cardiogenic shock and an acute adrenergic myocarditis, requiring hemodynamic support and emergency arterial embolization prior to surgical excision, with a favorable outcome. Conclusion Paraganglioma-induced myocarditis is rare but can be dramatic. Management requires appropriate and immediate hemodynamic support. Embolization may be an alternative to stabilize the patient prior to surgery.
Paracetamol is the most widely drug involved in accidental paediatric exposures and deliberate self-poisoning cases because of its availability. N-acetyl cystein is the main treatment for this poisoning. We report a case of a 24-year-old Arab female who has deliberately ingested 100 tablets of 500 mg paracetamol each (50g). Her first examination was normal. She has received oral N-acetyl cystein (NAC) 6 hours after the ingestion. Serum paracetamol level done 18 hours post ingestion was 900 mg/l. On review the next days, she did not develop any symptoms of liver failure. However, due to the massive paracetamol ingestion associated with high serum paracetamol levels, oral NAC was continued for 3 days. The patient was discharged well on the fifth day of hospitalization. Our patient has ingested one of the highest paracetamol overdose (50g) with the highest paracetamol blood levels ever reported in medical literature. She was treated, six hours after ingestion, with oral NAC for 3 days without any side effects.
