Fig. 1. Geodesic conic subdivision curves on a triangulated surface. The initial control polygon (in red) and the curve (in blue).Abstract-In this paper we present a nonlinear curve subdivision scheme, suitable for designing curves on surfaces. The scheme is inspired in the concept of geodesic Bézier curves. Starting with a geodesic control polygon with vertices on a surface S, the scheme generates a sequence of geodesic polygons that converges to a continuous curve on S. If the surface is C 2 continuous, then the subdivision curve is C 1 continuous. In the planar case, the limit curve is a conic Bézier spline curve. Each section of the subdivision curve, corresponding to three consecutive points of the control polygon, depends on a free parameter which can be used to obtain a local control of the shape of the curve. Results are extended to triangulated surfaces showing that the scheme is suitable for designing curves on these surfaces and has the convex hull property.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
