ABSTRACT.This study aimed to comprehend the initial needs of chemistry games (CGs) media through field observation at Senior high schools in Pekanbaru. The data was processed quantitatively and used to determine the type of game that requires further development. This quantitative descriptive research used questionnaires and interviews for collecting data and used purposive sampling as a sampling technique. The number of respondents is 18 teachers and 140 students from 7 Senior high schools in Pekanbaru. The results showed: 1) The needs of learning media generally varies at each school; 42,86% needs an electronic-based chemistry games media and 57,14% needs both non-electronic and electronic-based chemistry games media, 2) Students demanded an instructional media that educational, interactive, exciting and fun, with a game form, 3) Teachers overwhelmed making an instructional teaching media.
An in-depth knowledge of the periodic table is one of the most fundamental keys to understand the basic principles of chemistry. Memorizing and understanding the systemic chemical elements is one optional strategy to study the position of each element in the periodic table. However, memorization strategies are generally tricky for students and are not "long term memory". Therefore, it is necessary to have alternative learning that can help understand chemical elements with "long term memory." In this case, the researchers present a modification of the UNO card game called "Chemuno" with the advantages of combining a chemistry triangle approach that implemented chemicals in daily life. Such formulated game is carried out to kindly understand elements of the periodic table and recognize the groups and periods of each element. The development of the current research uses the 4D model with restrictions on the development stage. The game "Chemuno-based Chemistry Triangle" is thereby declared valid with a percentage of 92.5% and practically with a percentage of 96.86%. The use of such game is limited to schools used as trial sites yet it can be used in other schools with the similar students' characteristics.
This research aimed at analyzing student learning difficulty in answering chemistry questions on Atomic Structure lessonat the tenth grade of State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru. It was a qualitative descriptive research. 20 test items and interview to 35 students were the techniques of collecting the data. P= b/n×100 % formula was used to analyze the data. The analysis result showed that students experiencing learning difficulty about the concept were 59.73% and 74.91% in calculation. Interview result showed that the lack of student comprehension in understanding the concept and calculation on Atomic Structure lesson, the use of formula in answering questions that was often wrong, teacher's habit in learning chemistry that was writing on the whiteboardonly, and the students who were lack of anxiety in answering examples of questions given by the teachers. So, it could be concluded that there were learning difficultieson Atomic Structure lesson of Chemistry subjectat the tenth grade of MIPA at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru.
Practicum guides that usually exist in school was student workbook taken from chemistry book that were too a lead and not using a learning model so that it did not motivate students to think creatively. Therefore, it was necessary a teaching material design that completing learning model. It was a Practicum module Problem Based Learning based. This research aimed at knowing the validity, prcaticality levels and student respond toward practicum module produced. It was a Research and Development (R&D) with Borg and Gall model. Subject of this research were a lecturer of material expert, a lecurer of media expert, two teacher of chemistry and tenth students at the Eleventh Grade of MIA at State Senior High School 2 Kuok. The object of this reserach were practicum module Problem Based Learning (PBL) based on electrolyte solution and non electrolyte lesson. Validity test questionnaire and practicality test questionnaire and student respond questionnaire were the techniques of collecting the data. Data analysis was done by using Descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. The result of data analysis shows that the validity level of practicum module Problem Based Learning (PBL) Based was 92.38% (Very valid) and the practicality level was 85.60% (Very practice). Based on this research, it could be concluded that the Practicum Module Problem Based Learning (PBL) Based on Electrolyte Solution and Non Electrolyte Lesson were valid and practice and got a good student respond to be used as teaching material in practical activity at school. Keywords : Practicum Module, Problem Based Learning, Electrolyte Solution and Non Electrolyte Lesson.
This research was instigated by the unavailability of the instructional media implementing green Chemistry concept and the limitation of laboratory facilities at State Senior High School 1 Pekanbaru. It aimed at knowing the validity and practicality levels of Green Chemistry oriented Simple Water Purifier prop instructional media on Colloid lesson, the guidebook of constructing and using props. It was Research and Development (R&D) with 4D development model. The technique of collecting the data was questionnaire. Instruments of collecting the data were validity test questionnaire, practicality test questionnaire, and student response questionnaire. The assessment of the prop and guidebook by the experts of material showed the percentages continuously 93.33% and 90%. The assessment of the prop and guidebook by the experts of media showed the percentages continuously 80.95% and 83.33%. The practicality assessment of the prop and guidebook by the teachers showed the percentages continuously 94.25% and 98.33%. The practicality assessment by the students showed the percentage 90.25%.
