This research intended to analyze factors of students’ lack of self confidence in speaking English. It was also aimed to present possible strategies used to overcome students’ lack of self confidence in speaking English. The type of this research was qualitative. This research was conducted in SMA Negeri 4 BauBau. This research focused on obtaining data from the English teacher and students at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 4 BauBau in the academic year 2018/2019 as the subjects of the research. In collecting data, the researchers used observation, interview. The technique used in analyzing data were three steps, those were data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that the factors which cause students’ lack of self confidence were anxiety, shyness, fear of making mistakes, and lack of vocabulary. Meanwhile, the possible strtaegies to overcome students’ lack of self confidence in speaking English were lowering students’ anxiety in classroom, improving students’ vocabulary, boosting students’ self-confidence, and forming group discussion.
The objective of the research was to examine students’ reading anxiety and students’ reading strategies to overcome reading anxiety at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Data Collection in this study was carried out using a research instrument in the form of questionnaires. There was research questionnaire “EFL Reading Anxiety Inventory (EFLRAI) consisting 23 items statements to find out the level of students’ reading anxiety. There was also reading strategies questionnaire which consists of 20 items statements to find out the students’ reading strategies. The data obtained were analyzed by using SPSS program 21.0. The results showed that students’ reading anxiety was in the high category with the mean score 2.75 which was dominated by top-down reading anxiety and bottom-up reading anxiety, while the reading strategy was in the moderate category by the mean score 2.81 and the dominantly used was metacognitive strategy.
Problem Problem statement of this research was whether there was a significant effectof students' writing anxiety on the writing self-efficacyat SMP Negeri 7 Baubau. Objective of the research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of writing anxiety toward writing self-efficacyat SMP Negeri 7Baubau. Data collection in this research was carried out using a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire, to determine the effect of writing anxiety on writing self-efficacy in the use of English. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis, prerequiset analysis, and inferential statistical analysis. Based on the results of the research, it was concluded that there was no significant effectbetween writing anxiety toward writingself-efficacy. This conclusion is based on statistical analysis. Because Fcount is 3.112.with a significant value of 0.183. the calculated Fcount is lower than Ftable and the significant value is greater than (0.05). This means that the null hypothesis is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is rejected.
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of strategy in studying language toward thinking style in EFL students senior high school students in the South Buton regency. A correlational design was used as the method of this research. There were 50 students from grade eleven involved in this research. The data collection used questionnaires as the instrument for both variables and analyzed using the regression test. This research found that the mean score for language learning strategies was 72.78, which was in the good category and the mean score for thinking style was 74.57, which was also in the good category. The hypothesis testing result indicated language learning strategies are significantly and strongly correlated to thinking style since the score of correlation was 0.775.
The problem of the research was “what factors did affect students’ reluctance to speak in Speaking class?” the objective of this research was to know what factors did affect students reluctant to speak in Speaking class. The research was a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research were students and a lecturer of Speaking subject in English Department of Unidayan. The data of research were collected through observatin, interview and documentation. The data were analyzed through three steps adopted from Miles and Huberman; data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that students’ reluctance to speak in speaking class caused by two factors namely linguistic problems which were lack of vocabulary, grammar and pronounciation. And non linguistic problem which were lack of self confidence, shyness, nervous, shaking, and worried in making mistake. In addition, students also did not gain any additional English courses outside their class.
