The morphology of the antennal sensilla of both male and female Habrobracon hebetor (Say) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is described using Scanning Electron Microscopy complemented with Transmission Electron Microscopy. Five types of innervated sensilla as well as uninnervated microtrichia were found. These types are: sensilla trichodea; s. chaetica; s. basiconica; s. coeloconica; and s. placodea. No differences in shape, basic structure, and types of antennal sensilla were found between males and females. The types of sensilla of both sexes of H. hebetor were compared with what has been described in other parasitic Hymenoptera, and their putative functions are discussed with reference to their morphology, distribution and ultrastructure.
The Cratocentrinae (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) of the West Palaearctic region are reviewed. A reappraisal of the morphological characters used for their recognition and phylogeny is provided as is a key to separate the genera and species of the region. Their distribution in the West Palaearctic is updated and the subfamily is reported for the first time in Europe. Cratocentrus inermus Delvare sp. nov. and Philocentrus papillus Abul-Sood Gadallah sp. nov. are described. A neotype is designated for Philocentrus argenteopilosus (Cameron), which is revalidated and transferred to Philocentrus comb. nov. stat rev.
In the present study, a total of eleven Aphidiinae parasitoid species belonging to six genera (Aphidius Nees, Binodoxys Mackauer, Diaeretiella Starý, Ephedrus Haliday, Lysiphlebus Foerster and Praon Haliday) were recorded from three aphid species [Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch), Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) and Sitobium avenae (F.)] feeding on four cereal plants (Avena sativa L., Hordeum vulgare L., Triticum aestivum L. and Zea mays L.) in Egypt. An illustrated key of the recorded aphidiines, the tritrophic (parasitoid-aphid-plant) associations and their distribution in the target area are also provided. Among the emerged parasitoids, Aphidius ervi Haliday is a new record for the fauna of Egypt. Aphidius transcaspicus Telenga and Binodoxys angelicae (Haliday) are reported for the first time to be associated with aphids infesting cereals in Egypt.
In the present study, the Iranian Microgastrinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) fauna is summarized. It is based on a detailed study of all available published data and new material collected. In total 99 species belonging to 8 genera are from Iran: Apanteles Förster, 1862 (36 species), Cotesia Cameron, 1891 (34 species), Deuterixys Mason, 1981 (1 species), Diolcogaster Ashmead, 1900 (4 species), Microgaster Latreille, 1804 (4 species), Microplitis Förster, 1862 (11 species), Pholesetor Mason, 1981 (4 species) and Protapanteles Ashmead, 1898 (5 species) in 4 tribes (Apantilini, Cotesiini, Microgastrini and Microplitini). A faunistic list with distribution data, and host records are given. Four species are new records for the fauna of Iran: Apanteles brunnistigma Abdinbekova, 1969, A. ingenuoides Papp, 1971, Microplitis decipiens Prell, 1925 and M. marshallii Kokujev, 1898.
