Mass media have completely changed the way politicians and voters communicate. Communication within political parties, membership activism, party discipline and respect for hierarchy have become less important, because the media play a central role in the dissemination of political information, in political education, and also in the process of persuading the masses to do certain things. According to Zoran Slavujević (2009), contemporary politics is actually an organized media phenomenon that is planned and implemented for and through cooperation with the media. In this paper, the author elaborates on the relationship between political communication and traditional media, showing its historical development, but also contemporary concepts of this inseparable connection. The press, radio and television were created at different periods of time, but each of these media changed the rules of political communication and set new standards. Although many theorists predicted the end of their predecessors with the appearance of each of these media, each of them adapted to new circumstances and survived to this day. Recognizing the power of political communication through mass media, political subjects accepted the concept of politics based on the standards set by the media.

The subject of this paper is the impact of social media on political informing and political knowledge of students in Serbia. Based on the premise that social media users can independently create their own information and cognitive environment, our theoretical starting point is the uses and gratification theory, which is often applied in the current research on the impact of social media on different forms of political participation. The main goal of the empirical research is to determine whether the use of social media based on satisfying the daily information, communication and entertainment needs brings about changes in the informing and political knowledge of Serbian students. Therefore, the main hypothesis of the research is - the use of social media based on gratifying the needs for information, communication and entertainment leads to better informing and knowledge about politics among students in Serbia. The research sample (N=554) consisted of students aged 19-24 from the Republic of Serbia. In addition, the respondents were the students from the three largest universities in the Republic of Serbia (the University of Belgrade, the University of Novi Sad and the University of Niš). The research findings indicated that the use of social media for the purpose of meeting users' personal needs for general information, communication and entertainment does not lead to a better informing and knowledge about politics among students in Serbia.
Despite the fact that women have succeeded in their effort to have equal participation in the Summer Olympics, the public image of them is still predominantly stereotyped, which this study proves. The subject of analysis in this paper are narrative articles and photographs about male athletes and female athletes in sports sections, especially in the Olympic specials and the front pages of the best-selling daily newspaper in Serbia, Blic, during the Olympic Games, from July 27th to August 13th 2012. Hypotheses that the authors want to prove deal with the assumption that male athletes are often more represented in media than female athletes, and that the articles about women are often stereotyped. Some of the most frequent stereotypes are those which describe women as feminine, beautiful or sexual objects, as well as like someone's mother, wife or girlfriend, also, as infantile, emotional or irritable, or maybe those are just some irrelevant articles that do not talk about sport activities of female athletes. The Olympic Games in London are significant because, for the first time in history, women were equated with men in the sports in which both genders participate.
