Academic leaders have a significant task to carry out in higher educational institutions, and for the improvement of academic leaders' responsiveness regarding their emotional intelligence and their influence is essential. This research is intended to examine the academic leaders' emotional intelligence and idealized influence towards subordinates intention to perform and how it moderated by academic leaders' gender. Drawing from attribution theory and social exchange theory, the research hypothesized that leaders' emotional intelligence and subordinate intention to perform will be mediated by leaders' idealized influence. 386 questionnaires samples from five Malaysian public research universities was obtained with partial least squares structural equation modeling used in analyzing the measurements. The findings revealed that academic leaders' emotional intelligence-subordinates intention to perform relationship mediated via academic leaders' idealized influence. In addition, the mediation analysis revealed that academic leaders' idealized influence mediated the leaders' emotional intelligence-subordinates intention to perform when it was modeled with academic leaders' gender as moderated in the structure model.
Today, academics are under high pressure to equip themselves to satisfy various demands. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between job burnout, occupational commitment, and organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) among academics at a private university in Malaysia. The present study was applied on the basis of PLS-SEM analysis. A total of 620 academics from two campuses of a private university participated in the study. The results indicate that emotional exhaustion is the most stressful indicator of job burnout. Secondly, job burnout was found to exert a significant negative influence on OCB as well as occupational commitment. Finally, occupational commitment was found to be a mediator between job burnout and OCB. In summary, this study aims to improve the professional commitment and OCB of academic staff by addressing job burnout.

The effects of transformational leadership on job performance have been established, but a single component, idealised influence, has been neglected. Hence, this study aims to investigate the potential mediating effects of academic leaders’ idealised influence between academic leaders’ emotional intelligence and subordinates’ job performance. Approximately 386 questionnaires from five Malaysian public research universities were obtained. The partial least squares structural equation model was utilised in dichotomising the measurements. Drawing from attribution theory and social exchange theory, it was predicted that academic leaders’ idealised influence will mediate the relationship between academic leaders’ emotional intelligence and their subordinates’ job performance. However, the study reveals that the relationship between academic leaders’ emotional intelligence and their subordinates’ job performance was not mediated by academic leaders’ idealised influence. This study is useful for government and higher institutions in planning, developing, and implementing programs or policies in producing highly talented academic leaders in Malaysian research universities.
