-097Stereocontrolled Synthesis of Novel Enantiomerically Pure Sulfides and Selenides from (+)-Camphor and (+)-Camphor-10-sulfonyl Chloride.-Lewis-acid catalyzed addition of thiols or selenols (II) to the carbonyl group of (+)-camphor or its derivatives (I) provides the corresponding hemithio(seleno)acetals which are subsequently reduced in the presence of triethylsilane to furnish the sulfides or selenides (III) with absolute exo-selectivity. These novel camphor-derived sulfides and selenides are useful substrates for further alkylation or arylation reactions.-(PROCTER, DAVID J.; ARCHER, NICOLAS J.; NEEDHAM, ROBERT A.; BELL, DAVID; MARCHINGTON, ALLAN P.; RAYNER, CHRISTOPHER M.; Tetrahedron 55 (1999) 31, 9611-9622; Sch.
