A B S T R A C TIn this study, 316L parts were fabricated with the selective laser melting additive layer manufacturing process using unidirectional laser scan to control their texture. The melt pool shape, microstructure and texture of three different cubic samples were analyzed and quantified using optical microscopy and electron back-scattered diffraction. The samples scanned along the shielding gas flow direction were shown to exhibit shallow conduction melt pools together with a strong {110} < 001 > Goss texture along the laser scanning direction. The sample prepared with a laser scan perpendicular to the gas flow direction had deeper melt pools, with a weaker {110} < 001 > Goss texture in addition to a < 100 > fiber texture parallel to the scanning direction. Correlations were proposed between the melt-pool geometry and overlap and the resulting texture. The decrease of the melt pool depth was assumed to be linked to local attenuation of the laser beam effective power density transmitted to the powder bed.
International audienceThis paper aims at studying fatigue damage behavior of injection molded 30 wt% short glass fiber reinforced polyamide-66 composite (PA66/GF30). The evolution of dynamic modulus, hysteresis area, cyclic creep and temperature during fatigue tests were analyzed and discussed. Damage analyses by X-ray micro-computed tomography (lCT) technique on interrupted fatigue tests at several percentages of total fatigue life were performed to further understand the damage mechanisms and evolution during fatigue loading. It can be observed that experimental results related to the evolution of dynamic modulus, strain, temperature and energy dissipation are important and consistently complement each other for damage evaluation of PA66/GF30. During fatigue loading, diffuse damage occurs over the entire specimen though the damage does not necessarily exhibit the same level between different locations inside the specimen. The lCT analysis of voids characteristics demonstrates that the damage continuously increases during fatigue loading. The damage is developed notably along fiber interface in the form of fiber/matrix interfacial debonding
International audienceThis study deals with the fatigue crack initiation under multiaxial non-proportional loadings in a natural rubber. Push–pull, torsion and tension-compression with a superimposed static torsion fatigue test results are presented. A short presentation of some important features concerning short fatigue crack growth is given. Two fatigue crack criteria are proposed, the first one based on the first and second invariant of the Cauchy stress tensor, the second, based on the micromechanisms of crack initiation, consist of a critical plane approach under large strain conditions using a micro to macro approach. The second criterion was found to give the best results, by predicting the fatigue lifes, crack orientations and location, even in cases with internal crack initiation
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
