1 Although mentoring is perceived as a master-apprentice relationship, it is different in some aspects. Although both has a condition of imbalance due to experience, the power is with the master in master-apprentice relationship, in contrast to mentoring where the power is not with the mentor at all times. It is the liability of the mentor to balance the "power" factor to emerge between the mentor and the served (Bakioglu et.al.., 2015, p. 3-4). Besides, there is a mentoring relationship based on mutual respect, trust and professionalism in addition to open-mindedness and modesty in foundations of the mentoring relationship. Master-apprentice relationship, however, involves a relationship based on unilateral transfer of experience. For that very reason, mutual benefit is not as intense as in the mentoring relationship. In the master-apprentice relationship, unilateral communication and learning is prioritized. AbstractThis research on mentoring phenomenon aims at putting forth the areas of mentoring need for the novice and preservice teachers. This study exhibits a pattern consisting of qualitative research model and takes as a basis the case study approach. Criteria sampling technique was used in the research due to reasons peculiar to the research. The research was conducted with primary teachers with one to five years of experience in his/her occupation as well as candidate teachers who haven't started service yet. The data was collected through interviews with novice and preservice teachers. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was found out that both novice and preservice teachers need mentoring on pedagogically significant matters.
Political education is a term with negative associations and triggering prejudiced approaches and discourses -maybe some paranoid thoughts-like "keep politics away from education!" in the minds of several people. This article deals with "political education" phenomenon almost never discussed and made subject to scientific researches in Turkey; and discussing what is tried to be achieved in the minds and actions of the children and youths via political education suggests integration as a cross curriculum of the formally neglected political education phenomenon we rather see at informal contexts. This study is a theoretical one based on literature review. It has been realized by review, compilation, synthesis and presentation of the existing researches on political education.
This study aims to reveal the reading profile of primary school students. The research design is based on a survey model with the research population being comprised of primary school students in the 2014-2015 academic year in the city center of Nevsehir, Turkey. The sample of the study consists of 120 fourth-grade students. The research data was obtained from a two section questionnaire developed by the researcher and consisted of open-ended questions. The first section included personal questions and the second section consisted of 15 items that were expected to reflect the level of the reading profile of primary school students. The SPSS program was used to analyze the data. The results showed that almost all the children intellectually considered that reading was important and necessary; yet, they were not able to exactly reflect that thought in their actions.
