The main problem for Indonesian English learners is the lack of vocabulary. During the teaching and learning process, most students often need more time to complete the tasks given by the teacher. Students have to translate the text word by word because their vocabulary is limited. It takes a long time, so achieving learning objectives is less effective. In practice, language is complex for students to understand. This study aims to analyze whether the Bright – English for Beginners application can enrich students' vocabulary or not. It is quantitative research with a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted on class VII students consisting of 22 students. The methods used to collect data are observation, interviews, and tests. The instruments used to analyze the data are questionnaires and question sheets in analyzing the data obtained using descriptive statistics. The study results were that there was a statistically significant difference between the pre-test (before treatment) and post-test (after treatment). The mean pre-test score was 34.62, while the mean post-test was 88.25. Post-test achievement is higher than pre-test achievement. The findings of this study reveal that the use of the Bright – English for Beginners application significantly enriches students' vocabulary. As a result, it can be concluded that the Bright – English for Beginners application effectively improves students' vocabulary.
This research is based on the students’ motivation in studying English. It intends to prove that students can improve their motivation and it is seen in their achievement in their study. The purpose of this research is to prove that this method is effective in order to improve students’ motivation to learn English. This research is conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Bitung. The subject of this research is a seventh-grade student of SMP Negeri 11 Bitung consisted of 24 students. The design of this research is a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data are collected through multiple choice as an instrument and with questionnaires and interviews to support the data. In analyzing the data writers use percentage formula. The result of this research shows that the score of the post-test is higher (72.09%) than the score of the pre-test (44.16%). Based on the fact of the result of this research, it can be concluded that the Audio-lingual method is effective to be applied in class to improve students’ motivation in studying English. The aim of this study is to (1) reveal how the process of using watch movie clips as astrategy in improving students’ listening skill in teaching and learning activity. (2) find outwhether the use of watch movie clips as a strategy can improve students’ listening skill ornot.Classroom action research is used in research design. The research was conducted fromFebruary 10th 2016 until February 24th 2016 at the grade twelve students of SMA Negeri1 Pineleng. The research was conducted in two cycles inclusive of two meetings in everycycle. Every cycle consisted of four steps: plan, action, observation, and reflection. Theresearch data were collected by observation and test. The qualitative data were analyzedthrough Miles and Huberman’s Three-Part Analysis, meanwhile the quantitative data wereanalyzed through mean score formula. The result of the data analysis using mean scoreformula indicates that the post-test score in cycle two 83.75 is higher than the pre-test64.75 The research findings show that watching movie clips as a strategy could improvestudents’ listening skill, related to the improvement of: the students’ ability in answeringteacher’s question correctly, the students’ ability in determining the general idea and specificinformation, the students’ ability in making a summary and retelling the story, and thestudents’ score in listening test. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that watchingmovie clips as a strategy can improve students’ listening skill.The research is expected togive input for English teacher in improving students’ listening skill, and to use watchingmovie clips as a strategy in teaching and learning English activity.
