Subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis is an uncommon fungal infectionof the dermis and subcutaneous tissues wherein the host immune status is an important variable in its manifestations. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and culture sensitivity are useful techniques for the diagnosis of the causative organism. | C A S E REP ORTA 59-year-old female presented with a history of serosanguinous discharge from recurrent subcutaneous swelling over the dorsum of the right hand for 10 months. She had poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus and suffered from COVID-19 infection 2 months back which was managed conservatively. Following the infection, the size of the swelling and discharging sinuses increased. A horizontal scar was also noted for incision and drainage given at a local hospital. No other systemic ailments were noted. The clinical differential diagnoses were mucormycosis, botryomycosis, eumycetoma, actinomycosis, and atypical mycobacteria. FNAC was requested and the swelling was noted to be subcutaneous, poorly defined, firm, and non-tender over the dorsum of the right hand extending to the wrist joint.
