Sixty‐nine hyperplastic polyps over 6mm in diameter were studied with respect to their size and location. Of these polyps, 47% in the rectum, 35% in the right colon, and 80% in the left colon were pedunculated. In other words, polyps with stalks were prevalent in the left colon. Horizontally growing tumors like hyperplastic polyps tended to be pedunculated depending on their location.
Styrene has been graftcopolymerized with aqueous solutions of Ce(N03 )6 .2NH4 (CAN) onto cellulose samples modified chemically in different manner, i.e., oxidized, reduced and oximated. The polymerization was conducted in the absence of mineral acid. It was found that the copolymerization did proceed not for the oxidized and oximated cellulose but only for the reduced cellulose, in which intact C, -C2 glycols are retained in the reducing endgroup. From these results it was confirmed that the C, -C2 glycol acts as the grafting site. Truely grafted polystyrene side-chains were isolated from graft product by using a technique of thin-layer chromatography combined with acid hydrolysis of cellulose backbone and the chemical constitution of their chain ends have been investigated with a paper-chromatographic technique. It was found that the side chain contained aldehyde residue at their chain ends. This result implied that the grafting grew up from a free radical produced on the C, position of reducing cellulose-endgroup. (Received March 17, 1979) Present Address: Fujikura Kasei Co., Tokyo
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
