Academic reading is a difficult subject to be mastered. It is needed because most of books or references are written in English. The emphasis is on academic reading which becomes a compulsory subject that must be taught and understood in Faculty of Letters UAD Yogyakarta. Communicative approach is used and applied as an alternative method in the process of teaching-learning that focuses on language as a medium of communication. Communication ability involves in understanding fully the vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and all aspects of English skills such as reading, listening, speaking and writing.One main focus of the classroom action research that appears from communicative approach which is applied in the process of teaching-learning academic reading will be discussed. The objectives are (1) How is the application of communicative approach?, (2) How far is the influence of using communicative approach in teaching academic reading? It includes the study intensity of the students, the benefit and the weakness of using the approach.The results showed the application of communicative approach effectively improved the students' ability in academic reading. It could be seen from the improvement of some aspects, (1) aspects of reading ability, (2) aspects of English: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, communication, and ability of cooperation, colaboration, socialization, sharing ideas, opinion, and suggestion. The objective of teaching, the model of syllabus, the form of teaching-learning activity, and the kinds of learning material used by the teachers were consistent with those which were recommended by communicative approach.
This study aimed to describe social reality in Dancer Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari using sociology of literature theory. Analyzing the data used descriptive method, and collected bylibrary study with identifying novel “The Dancer”. From this study can be seen that there is a social reality in Dukuh Paruk. Dukuh paruk is a poor village and backward in every way. In it there are traditions that may be considered by some as taboo and violating norms, but in the village of Dukuh Paruk, they are still strong in holding onto these traditions. The social condition of people who are poor in wealth and knowledge has other social impacts. Rasus and Srintil, who are the main characters in the novel, make Dukuh Paruk village a witness to their love journey which is full of problems and challenges. However, the social problems that hinder them are not only due to their inability to unite their love, but also because of the many environmental factors that surround them. In Dukuh Paruk village, there are many social realities which represent the life of Dukuh Paruk Village which is small but has complex problems. This phenomenoncaused by some aspects such aspoverty and lack of knowledge in society. Some social reality founded in this story started from poverty, sorcery, tyranny, love, prostitution, pre-wedding sex, trickery, social jealousy and sexual abuse.
Mariwan Hasan (2020), suggests that Golding’s novel can be used in a second language classroom to teach democratic values such as the right to free speech using reader-response theory. Curriculum requires that democratic values be taught through each subject, suggests that students can be taught about democratic values through classroom discussions and writing assignments based on the novel (Ghazal Kazim Syed, 2020). In addition to academic learning, researchers believe that students also gain confidence through the collaboration work. When students conform each other’s opinions in activities involving group work, it makes them confident and comfortable with each other. When the teacher is not around to ask a question, they will be less at pressure. against them (Cynthia S, 2020). The practice of collaborative learning in online education is increasing steadily as many curriculum creators and online course teachers are starting to understand its positive effects on the learning of students. This study aimed to analyze students' perceptions in narrative class (The Lord of Flies) through online collaboration learningu used a qualitative research design was followed by this study. As it is a study of perceptions, a qualitative methodology using a phenomenological approach, the participants of this study were twelve the eleventh grade students, data for this article was gathered through semi-structured interviews. The researcher checked part of the coding against each other to ensure trustworthiness of data. Keeping in light the usefulness of online collaboration learning shown in this study, it is recommended that teachers should take effort to include students in literature online discussion group. Furthermore, it is recommended that similar studies should be conducted in schools and colleges. As this study is recommended for future researchers to check the adaptability of the findings in other contexts.
The title mentioned above is discussed to overcome the difficulties of learning when facing Covid-19 for PAUD (Early Childhood Education Students) in Indonesia because they are the basic and the main level for success in Education. In fact, with the change from studying at school to learning at home, many parents face problems and difficulties, not just the teacher as a delivery of material to students and as teachers. The changes that occur are very sudden without proper preparation, because the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic is also very sudden. However, teachers and parents are required to be able to overcome the problem of learning and education for students as the successor to the nation in order to be able to successfully achieve future achievements for their future. The learning model is created immediately and by adjusting the situation, reality and situation. The model used is the Online and Environmental models. Over time learning in the face of a covid-19 pandemic, is faced with a focus that needs to be overcome and must be completed simultaneously. How learning can take place well, success according to objectives, and measuring learning success are also special things that need attention. How to measure the success of online learning at home is needed, because by measuring what has been done so far through direct teacher observation it is not possible to do, because students learn at home, so the role of parents is crucial. Therefore, in this paper, it is necessary to find out how to measure the success of PAUD students in their studies at home under the supervision of parents and deal directly with the main school with the teacher.
