Safety is an important element in an organization. A safe work space makes safety a priority throughout the organization. Improved safety will minimize job accidents, injuries, medical illnesses and death. Occupational safety and health (OSH) training that is provided by the top management of universities will create a safe and comfortable environment for both the staff and students. It also guarantees that every employee is safe in the workplace. Thus, the primary objective of this study is to investigate the effect of safety training towards personal compliance. A total of 234 questionnaires were distributed to 20 higher educational institutions in Selangor, Malaysia. A conclusion was reached once the data were analyzed using SPSS; that safety training (B = 0.364, t = 11.90, p <.01) significantly has a positive effect on Personal Compliance.
Extent of computer usage in public and private sectors had been greatly increased in recent decades carrying the risk of several health hazards. Due to the impact of computer ergonomic hazards on office workers, this study is conducted to evaluate the awareness and determinants of computer ergonomic hazards among office workers in Klang Valley. A total of 340 office workers from 4 district areas were selected using online survey. Independent sample t-test and standard multiple regression was used to analyse the data. The finding of this study reveals that the respondents possess a high level of awareness of computer ergonomics hazards especially the long hours of computer usage can affect their health conditions. Consistent with the Activity Theory, this study suggests that the design of workstation has an impact on computer ergonomic hazards. This study gives the office management as well as policy-makers the opportunity to take necessary steps such as arranging training and development programmes, prepare guidelines on the awareness of computer ergonomic hazards, and redesign the workstation’s furniture and setup following worldwide prominent ergonomic standard and guidelines.
One of the biggest challenges in tertiary education is that lecturers need to be versatile and able to quickly adapt to different challenges in many different functions or activities such as recruiting new student. Moreover, a higher timetable load may contribute to emotional stress, and lecturers need to know how to work with unpredictable situations like difficult students or office politics. Thus, lecturers need a huge support system in place to deal with these situations at work, but information on lecturers’ coping abilities, specifically referred to as spiritual intelligence (SQ) is limited and not yet understood. Therefore, this study aims to examine how the SQ affects performance of lecturers in privately-owned universities by measuring the quality services. Based on the questionnaires distributed to lecturers in selected privately-owned universities, this study found that the SQ level among the young lecturers was quite high. It was also revealed that all sub-dimensions of SQ were positive and also significantly affected the performance of the lecturers. The standardised coefficient beta values indicated that the sub-dimensions of Transcendence contributed to 37%, while Meaning contributed to 31% Service Quality.
