Effect of precursor's concentration on structure and morphology of ZnO nanorods synthesized through hydrothermal method on gold surface AIP Conference Proceedings 1788, 030120 (2017) Abstract. Power factor correction capacitor (PFCC) is commonly installed in industrial applications for power factor correction (PFC). With the expanding use of non-linear equipment such as ASDs, power converters, etc., power factor (PF) improvement has become difficult due to the presence of harmonics. The resulting capacitive impedance of the PFCC may form a resonant circuit with the source inductive reactance at a certain frequency, which is likely to coincide with one of the harmonic frequency of the load. This condition will trigger large oscillatory currents and voltages that may stress the insulation and cause subsequent damage to the PFCC and equipment connected to the power system (PS). Besides, high PF cannot be achieved due to power distortion. This paper presents the design of a three-phase hybrid filter consisting of a single tuned passive filter (STPF) and shunt active power filter (SAPF) to mitigate harmonics and resonance in the PS through simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC software. SAPF was developed using p-q theory. The hybrid filter has resulted in significant improvement on both total harmonic distortion for voltage (THDV) and total demand distortion for current (TDDI) with maximum values of 2.93% and 9.84% respectively which were within the recommended IEEE 519-2014 standard limits. Regarding PF improvement, the combined filters have achieved PF close to desired PF at 0.95 for firing angle, α values up to 40 o .
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects have always been complex subjects for school children as many experienced difficulty and complexity in grasping the basic conceptual knowledge. Therefore, Centre for Diploma Studies (CeDS) of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is moving forward to achieve sustainable development for society by pursuing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through National Blue Ocean Strategy 4 (NBOS 4) initiatives. As a member of the society, CeDS try to ensure that the society will acquire the benefit of CeDS business activities as a whole.. ScienceXplorer programme had been implemented to attract primary school students in learning science. ScienceXplorer is a programme that basically implementing the concept of learning by doing. This study was performed to assess participant perception towards the implementation of ScienceXplorer. A self-completion questionnaire had been designed with a series of Likert scale questions that organized to gather participants’ perceptions of participating ScienceXplorer. The questionnaire had been designed using Kirk Patrick Evaluation Model. There were 148 participants from three primary schools took part in this study. In this scope of study, ScienceXplorer participants rated very high in terms of reflection, knowledge and skill, changes in behaviour and aspiration.
The demanding for energy in Malaysia to use for all-purpose of small device charging has been developed. The purpose of this project is to develop portable solar storage (PSS) device with all the components of an off-grid solar station compact into a small portable handheld casing. The PSS is aimed for outdoor activity passionate such as hikers, campers and climbers that need a portable power charger that can charge their electronic gadgets while they carry on with their activities. The input current and voltage of the solar panel had been recorded over a span of two weeks. The generation of electricity is harvested from solar irradiation on 12 V and 18 V solar panel and stored upon 98 W energy storage beneath the solar panel. The power stored put on the test and capable to recharge up to 10,000 mAh capacity for one-time charging. As a comparison between 12V and 18 V solar panel, the result shows the average charging rate of the 12 V and 18 V solar panels could reach as high as 16.086 W/h and 13.35 W/h respectively which considered had reached 12.75% efficiency.
