Purpose This study aims to evaluate students’ views on the on-the-campus entrepreneurship programs in Malaysian polytechnics. Participation in the entrepreneurship programs is able to stimulate an interest in entrepreneurship, and improve the knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial experience of its students. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted a survey method designed in the form of an objective-oriented program evaluation. Questionnaires were used to identify the students’ level of assessments of the instructional dimensions. This study explored the differences in evaluation based on gender, specializations, and courses attended. Findings The results showed moderately high level of evaluation. The analysis of gender differences shows that gender did not affect students’ views on the instructional dimension. However, students’ specialization and courses attended are associated with significant differences in the level of evaluation Research limitations/implications This research is limited to only five Malaysian polytechnics. The study was looking into the instructional dimension of the entrepreneurship programs. Further research should include the assessment of the institutional side of the programs. . Practical implications The evaluation results provide important recommendations to improve some practical aspects of the entrepreneurial activities. The polytechnics’ departments can focus on the actual content as well as on the learning experience to implement conducive, positive, and supportive practices that could lead to a maximum participation rate among students. Originality/value There have been no discussions or evaluation of the entrepreneurship programs conducted in Malaysian polytechnics in terms of objective-oriented evaluation. This paper attempts to fill the current gap.
Entrepreneurship programs can give students the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to thrive financially in complex and dynamic economics, challenges. Lecturers in such programs play a vital role in stimulating and motivating students. This paper aims to evaluate entrepreneurship programs in polytechnic from the perspective of the lecturers. A total of 109 participants were chosen from polytechnic from six zones in Malaysia. A descriptive survey method was employed using a questionnaire designed to evaluate three dimensions: institution, instruction, and program objectives. The results showed that the institutional dimension received a moderately high rating, with the highest mean obtained for administrator support, the lecturers' level of knowledge obtained the lowest mean rating. In the instructional dimension, teaching methods received the highest mean rating, whereas availability of facilities and infrastructures obtained the lowest. Finally, the lecturers indicated a moderately high level of satisfaction with program objectives. These results demonstrate the need to improve certain aspects of the existing entrepreneurship programs.
The purpose of this article was to explore the level of critical thinking and differences in critical thinking skills between student based on gender and their class. This study uses survey design and implemented on 103 students. The objectives of the study can be achieved through the use of an evaluation instrument related to critical thinking skills in the context of statistics. Objective results showed no significant difference in gender. There was no significant difference between all class. Overall this study provides the Institute of Teacher Education in Malay Language Campus a better understanding of the level of critical thinking skills for their Preparatory Program for Bachelor of Teaching students. There also have to take action about this skill and where these skills are being taught within the curriculum.
