As an addition to the diversity of Amorphophallus we here describe the recent discovery of A. fontarumii sp. nov. The distinct characteristics of the new species are described and compared to A. caudatus Bustamante et al. and A. minimus Bustamante et al. It differs from the other species by its miniature habit, very long tapered verruculose appendix, absence of a staminode, finely verruculose, long, thin and filiform appendix apex, globose ovary and irregular peltate stigma with one lobe.
A botanical exploration conducted by the Northwestern University – Biodiversity Research Unit and other collaborating institutions in the Ilocos Region, Northwestern Luzon, Philippines, led to the documentation of five Amorphophallus species in the area. Here, we provide new distributional records for A. longispathaceus and A. urceolatus, an expanded description and new conservation status for A. adamsensis, and describe new color forms of A. paeoniifolius. Moreover, the new species Amorphophallus flammeus is described and compared to its closest relatives.
