This article, Part II of a two-part series, surveys the state of the art of computer-based interactwe editing systems. This paper is a survey intended for a varied audience, including the more experienced user and the editor-designer as well as the curious novice. It presents numerous examples of systems in both the academic and commercial arenas, covering line echtors, screen editors, interactive editor/formatters, structure editors, syntax-directed editors, and commercial word-processing editors. We discuss pertinent issues in the field, and conclude with some observations about the future of interactive editing. The references for both parts are provided at the end of Part II.
