Purpose of the Study: This study aims to explain the collection of children's poetry by elementary school students in a book entitled "Keragaman Budaya Indonesia" and "Sehimpun Puisi. Resep Membuat Jagat Raya" in the multiculturalism perspective. Methodology: This study used the qualitative study paradigm rules with the content analysis method. The data in this study were the multiculturalism values in children's poetry. The data were sourced from a poetries book by elementary school students. They were then analyzed using interactive analysis techniques (data reduction, data presentation, and verification). Main Findings: The findings showed that there are fourteen indicators of multiculturalism, among others, respect for cultural equality, social class, ethnicity, gender, language, religion, race, skin color, and pluralism, equality of rights, customs, behavior patterns, education equality and tolerance in the poetries book. Applications of this study: The results of this study can be useful for teachers and elementary school students in Indonesia in teaching poetry writing and inculcating the values of multiculturalism. Also, it can be beneficial for the lecturers and the university students of Elementary School Teacher Education in Indonesia in teaching children's literature with multiculturalism. Novelty/Originality: The novelty of this research/study is to explore a collection of children's poetry books written by elementary school students from the perspective of multiculturalism. The importance of early recognition of the value of multiculturalism in children is used to teach children to respect each other and live in harmony and free from the prejudices of religious discrimination, gender, race, culture, skin color, social class, educational equality, and student diversity.
Multiculturalism substantially contains the values of cultural diversity which includes tolerance among religious groups. Internalizing the values of multiculturalism needs to be given to students from an early age. One of the efforts to internalize the values of multiculturalism is through literacy literature, namely writing poems with multiculturalism. This study discusses the students' understanding of the values of multiculturalism and tolerance for cultural diversity found in a collection of the students' poems. The focus of this study is multiculturalism and children's poems. This study aimed to explain the content of multiculturalism in the poems expressed by the elementary school students in Surakarta and Yogyakarta. This study used the qualitative research paradigm with content analysis method. The data in this study were the poems produced by the students. The data analysis technique used in this study was the interactive analysis technique consisting of data reduction, data display, and verification. To obtain data validity, data verification was done through data triangulation. The results showed that the poems made by elementary school students in Surakarta and Yogyakarta contained the values of multiculturalism. The themes of the poems are religion, cultural diversity and mutual respect. The students' works show their understanding of multiculturalism, so that they are expected to appreciate differences in religion, ethnicity, skin colour, race, culture, respect among the same, and uphold a sense of unity. Multiculturalism that is embedded in students early on is very helpful for them as a means of living side by side in diversity.
Education and multiculturalism are one important element as regards the industrial revolution 4.0. The excessive spread of information tends to trigger a crackdown on multiculturalism leading to conflicts by virtue of SARA-related provocation. This study aimed to describe the urgency of multiculturalism in children's literature textbooks in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. This descriptive qualitative study employed a content analysis method. The participants involved were the lecturers and students of Primary School Teacher Education department in Yogyakarta. The documents in this study referred to children's literature textbooks. One effort to introduce multiculturalism is through children's multicultural literature textbooks. Thus, they are needed to prevent negative impacts due to the multicultural reality. However, based on the preliminary documentation, the availability of children's literature textbooks had not given deep attention to multiculturalism yet. In the meantime, this issue is of importance since this nation's multiculturalism inclines to have negative impacts. The presence of children's multicultural literature textbooks is required by various parties to provide multicultural knowledge. Accordingly, it is important to provision those textbooks and is urgent to be realized to inhibit from the negative impacts of the industrial revolution 4.0.
