BACKGROUND: Early marriage is a marriage with a relatively young age under the age of 16 years. The phenomenon of early marriage many occur in Indonesia. Globally, 80% of girls aged 10–16 years have a 5 times greater risk of dying in cases of pregnancy and childbirth than women aged 20–24 years. Early marriage factors are: Coercion from parents, promiscuity, curiosity about the world of sex, socio-cultural factors, economic pressure, level of education, difficulty in getting a job, mass media, and views and beliefs. AIM: This study aimed to analyze the socio-cultural determinants that influence the incidence of early marriage in Village Baranti, District Baranti, Regency Sidenreng Rappang. METHODS: The design of this study is a cross-sectional study design with a simple random sampling technique carried in Village Baranti, District Baranti. The population in this study was 165 people and the number of samples 102 people. Data were collected by interview and questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Chi-square analysis. RESULTS: The results showed that the significant of the incidence of early marriage was fathers education (p = 0.023), mothers education (p = 0.041), and parental income (p = 0.036). CONCLUSION: It was concluded that there was a relationship between education father, mothers’ education, and parents’ income, toward the occurrence of early marriage in Village Baranti, District Baranti, Regency Sidenreng Rappang.

This study aims to analyze the socio-cultural determinants that influence the incidence of early marriage in Baranti Village, Baranti District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. The design of this study was a cross sectional study design with a simple random sampling technique implemented in Kelurahan Baranti, Baranti District. The number of samples are 102 people. Data collection by interview and questionnaire. Data were analyzed using chi-square analysis. The results showed that the significance of the incidence of early marriage was belief (p-value = 0.044), family role (p-value = 0.013), and promiscuity (p-value = 0.021). So, it was concluded that there was a relationship between belief, family role, and promiscuity towards the occurrence of early marriage in Baranti Village, Baranti District. Suggestions to the sidenreng rappang regency government to be stricter in applying sanctions for violators of the marriage law in accordance with applicable regulations.WHO collaborated with UNICEF in 2008 to improve the health of mothers and newborns in the 25 countries that contributed the highest maternal mortality rate, one of which was Indonesia. Teenagers who are pregnant will increase health risks for themselves and their babies, maternal mortality reaches 70,000 deaths each year, and maternal mortality is highly related to pregnancy and birth by adolescents aged 15-19 years worldwide [7].do not adhere to belief. Based on the results of the analysis of the chi square test obtained p-value (0.044) α α (0.05) so that Ha is accepted meaning that there is a relationship between belief in early marriage in Baranti Village Baranti District.The results of this study are in line with research conducted by Syahrial & Andayani [10] with the title Social and Cultural Factors Affecting Early Marriage Age 15-16 Years in Pelabuhan Village Martubung District in 2014. This research is an analytical quantitative study with chi-test square with a total sample of 50 people. The results showed that there was a relationship between socio-cultural factors and early marriage in Martubung Sub-District, Medan Labuhan District, with a p-value = 0.001.The family is the smallest unit in society consisting of the head of the family and family members, consisting of father, mother, child, grandmother etc. who live under a roof in a state of interdependence.Based on the results of research in the early married age group 72.7% the role of the family has an influence on the occurrence of early marriage and 48.3% has no effect. While in the age group not married early 27.3% the role of parents influential and 51.7% had no effect.
