The purpose of this research is to reveal the general trends of the studies on virtual reality in education in Turkey. During the research process, databases of Web of Science, ERIC, Scopus, DergiPark, TR Index, CoHE Thesis ve Google Scholar were reviewed. The titles and abstracts of the 3000 candidate studies included in the research were examined within the framework of the inclusion and exclusion criteria. As a result of the examination, a total of 69 studies published in 2008-2020, 16 master theses, 5 doctoral dissertations, 3 papers, and 45 articles, were evaluated within the scope of the research. The article review form developed by Göktaş et al. (2012) was used to collect data from these studies. The form was adapted by the researchers in accordance with the purpose of the research. Findings derived from the studies by using the content analysis method were presented by using appropriate charts and tables in line with the research questions. According to the results of the research, it has been revealed that studies on the use of virtual reality technology for educational goals have been accelerated in recent years. It was determined that ready-made contents were used in many of the virtual reality environments in the studies and the Unity game engine was the most preferred in the developed applications. Besides, purposive sampling techniques for the sample selection, interview forms and questionnaires for data collection and inferential statistical technics for the analysis of data were preferred for the quantitative dimension of the studies.
