Objective: Okra has been known for its properties in improving diabetes markers. Most study used okra extract instead of its infusion water. Okra infusion water (OIW) contains polysaccharide and viscous fiber that delay gastric emptying, and help controlling glucose and HbA1C level. As the glucose low level, so does the inflammation and oxidative stress on hyperglycemic rats. This study aims to investigate the effect of OIW in improving glucose level, HbA1C, SOD and CRP levels. Materials and methods: Posttest only control group design was applied to this experimental study using 15 male wistar rats divided randomly into 3 groups: Control, Streptozotocine (STZ), Streptozotocine+okra (OKRA). STZ, and OKRA groups induced with 65 mg/kg BW Streptozotocine and 110 mg/kg BW Nicotinamide on day 8. After the desirable glucose level achieved, OKRA were given 3.6 ml OIW on day 12-28. Data were analyzed using ANOVA in each variable. Results: Fasting and Postprandial Glucose level of OKRA (137,40±3,57 mg/dL and 154.58±2.71 mg/dL), STZ (251,77±2,30 mg/dL and 270.18±3.03 mg/dL); HbA1C level of OKRA (7.93±0.25), STZ (21.29±0.65); SOD level of OKRA (55.292±3.77%), STZ (16.472±5.298%); CRP level of OKRA (1,540±0,059 mg/dL), STZ (2,230±0,093 mg/dL) Conclusions: OIW able to improve glucose, HbA1C, SOD, and CRP level on hyperglycemic rats. Introduction: Antidiabetic medicinal plants are increasingly used in the treatment of diabetes as they are generally assumed to pro-duce minimal side effects. Okra is a quercetin-containing plant which can induce pancreas regeneration and has antidiabetic effect. There has been a lot of research that demonstrate that purple okra contains more quercetin than green okra. Aim: To demonstrate the advantages of purple okra over green okra on the diabetic markers improvement in diabetic rats. Materials and methods: Fifteen male 2-month-old Wistar rats were injected intraperitoneally with 65 mg streptozotocin and 110 mg niacinamide. Their blood glucose levels were measured three days after the injection. The induction of diabetes was deemed successful if the glucose level of the rats got higher than 250 mg/dL, and then such rats were considered diabetic. The diabetic rats were divided into three groups: an acarbose group, a purple okra powder group, and a green okra powder group. The latter two were given, respectively, purple and green okra powder for 28 days. Blood serum was taken to examine the fasting blood glucose, insulin, HOMA-B and GLUT-4 levels. Pancreas was examined histologically for damage using hematoxylin eosin staining. Results: Fasting blood glucose, insulin, HOMA-B, and GLUT-4 levels of diabetic rats that received purple okra powder (p<0.05) were better than those of the rats that received green okra powder. The least damage (p<0.05) to pancreatic beta cells was found in the purple okra powder group. Conclusions: Purple okra is superior to green okra in terms of improving the diabetic markers of rats.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Researchers keep attempting to develop therapy modalities to decrease the mortality and morbidity of cancer patients by trying to comprehend the effect of sympathetic nerves (through catecholamine and adrenergic receptors) in cancer development. Catecholamine activation in b-adrenergic receptors (b1-AR, b2-AR, and b3-AR) may influence cytokine and cancer immunity system, initiate tumorigenesis, stimulate tumor-associated macrophage and angiogenesis, influence tumor microenvironment, and facilitate cancer cell metastasis, leading to increased progressivity of cancer cells. b-blockers may inhibit catecholamine on b-AR and various types of paths needed for cancer cells to develop. b-blockers also stimulate cancer cell apoptosis, decrease pro-inflammatory mediators and growth factors of cancer cells. In addition, b-blockers also have benefits as supplementary cancer therapy, increase chemoradiotherapy sensitivity, decrease cardiotoxicity, and improve cancer cachexia.The benefits of b-blockers are expected to reduce morbidity and increase the survival rates of cancer patients. This review comprehensively assesses the benefit of b-blockers as a part of the complete management of cancer patients.
Status pandemi yang dikeluarkan oleh World Health Organization untuk Corona Virus disease/COVID-19 membatasi kegiatan fisik di luar rumah, sehingga memungkinkan individu mempunyai gaya hidup sedenter, meningkatkan risiko obesitas, dan rentan terhadap infeksi. Pengetahuan terhadap pengaturan komposisi makronutrien dan aktifitas fisik dapat mengendalikan obesitas, sehingga dapat meningkatkan pertahanan tubuh terhadap infeksi virus. Tujuan kegiatan edukasi kesehatan ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penyuluhan pengaturan komposisi makronutrien yang sesuai dengan pedoman umum gizi seimbang, serta pengaturan aktifitas fisik yang tepat terhadap pengetahuan kader kesehatan kelurahan Banjardowo, Kota Semarang sebagai upaya peningkatan pertahanan tubuh terhadap infeksi virus. Metode: One group pre- and post- test design diterapkan pada kegiatan ini. Lembar pertanyaan diberikan sebelum (pre) dan sesudah (post) pemberian edukasi kesehatan. Peserta kegiatan adalah 22 wanita kader Forum Kesehatan Kelurahan, dan Pemberdayaan Kesejahteraan Keluarga Kelurahan Banjardowo Semarang. Jumlah jawaban benar tiap peserta di-matching-kan, dan dianalisis menggunakan paired sample T-test, dengan p <0,05. Rerata jumlah jawaban benar pada saat pre-test dan post-test berbeda secara signifikan dengan nilai p<0,05 (p = 0,014), nilai post-test lebih tinggi secara bermakna dibandingkan dengan nilai pre-test. The objective of this educational program is to know whether intervention in knowledge of macronutrient composition and physical activity arrangement affect health literacy of health cadre of Banjardowo�s district, Semarang, in order to improve immune system toward viral infection. Methods: One group pre- and post- test design applied in this project. Questionnaire given pre and post intervention. The respondents are 22 female health cadre of Banjardowo�s district, Semarang the correct answers matched for each respondent, and analyzed using paired T-test, with significancy level of 0.05. The mean correct answers in pre-test are statistically differed from the post-test ones (p = 0,014). The post-test score is higher than the pre-test. Education in macronutrient composition and physical activity arrangement improve health literacy among the health cadre of Banjardowo�s district, Semarang.
