This paper presents the harmonic model of a simple three-phase STATCOM structure. It is based on the use of three single-phase PWM converters. This novel converter structure has the ability to restore voltage imbalances at the point of connection. The highly developed graphic facilities available in PSCAD/EMTDC are used to implement the model. Two different control schemes are presented, the first one uses a static control, based on steady state considerations, and the second one uses a dynamic control scheme. The use of the static control scheme reduces simulation time and code implementation, but perhaps more important is the fact that, for steady state analysis purposes, it yields results that are in close agreement with those given by the dynamic control scheme.Kegwords-Static VAR compensators, harmonic analysis, PWM, EMTDC.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
