The objectives of this study are to: (1) Producing character building based on North Sumatra local wisdom through orchestral learning in Music Education Study Program,  Unimed; (2) Producing orchestral learning that can shape the character of students in the Music Education Study Program; (3) Producing characters that are formed through orchestral learning in Music Education Study Program,  Unimed. It is expected that the existence of research on the topic of orchestral learning in Music Education Study Program,  Unimed  can shape character based on local wisdom in North Sumatra

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui manajemen Paduan Suara Consolatio Universitas Sumatera Utara, mengenai perencanaan, implementasi, dan monitoring evaluasi yang telah dilakukan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui: wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Informan penelitian adalah Ketua Badan Pengurus Harian, Konduktor, dan Anggota Paduan Suara Consolatio USU. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis data kualitatif dan dengan teknis analisis induktif. Penelitian kualitatif pada dasarnya adalah membangun teori, maka pada penelitian ini ada teori baru yang dibangun yakni "Manajemen Pelayanan". Pelayanan disini maksudnya adalah manajemen organisasi tidak mengharapkan keuntungan, namun organisasi tetap eksis. Paduan Suara Consolatio USU, organisasi non-formal, sejak awal perencanaan, organisasi telah memaparkan visi dan misi organisasi kepada calon anggota yang berasal dari mahasiswa dan alumni USU, yang pada implementasinya, misi organisasi berjalan dengan baikdan segala yang dilakukan tanpa pamrih dan takut akan Tuhan. Setelah adanya monitoring evaluasi, masih didapati sedikit kelemahan pada manajemen secara non-teknis yang dilakukan BPH. Kesimpulan penelitian, paduan suara bisa saja dibentuk dari mahasiswa USU, atau bahkan dapat dibentuk dari kalangan mana saja yang mau menyanyi dalam paduan suara. AbstractThis study aims to determine the management of the University of North Sumatra Consolatio Choir, regarding planning, implementation, and monitoring of evaluations that have been carried out. This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis approach. Data collection is obtained through: interviews, observation and documentation studies. The research informants were the Chair of the Daily Management Board, Conductor, and Members of the USU Consolation Choir. Data analysis was performed using qualitative data analysis and with technical inductive analysis. Qualitative research is basically building theory, so in this study there is a new theory that is built namely "Service Management". Service here means that organizational management does not expect profits, but the organization still exists. USU's Consolatio Choir, an informal organization, from the outset of planning, the organization has presented the organization's vision and mission to prospective members from USU students and alumni, which in its implementation, the organization's mission went well and everything that was done selflessly and feared God . After the evaluation monitoring, there were still a few weaknesses in non-technical management by BPH. Conclusion of research, choirs can be formed from USU students, or can even be formed from any group who wants to sing in a choir.

Erpangir kulau is a term or name created by the Karo community to express a tradition of religious ceremonies or self-cleansing rituals in the Karo community, which uses Karo traditional music, ensemble Gendang Lima Sedalanen, as a supporting element of its implementation. The purpose of this study was to determine the Function of Traditional Music Karo Gendang Lima Sedalanen in Implementation of the Erpangir Kulau Ceremony. The results showed that the five functions according to the Kustap theory were fulfilled by the use of the ensemble Gendang Lima Sedalanen. In its function as an emotional expression, it can be seen from how the ensemble has a strong energy to bring out the emotions of all the actors involved in carrying out the religious ceremonial activities, so that various attitudes of the ceremonial participants appear. Whereas in its function as a communication is realized during the ongoing communication between guru sibaso  who act as a medium between the spirit that is believed to be present, and the people who carry out pangir. Furthermore, the function of Gendang Lima Sedalanen as a social response arises from how the entire Karo community with various temperaments, but can unite to carry out this ceremony. When it functions as a cultural preservation fulfilled through its use in the ritual Erpangir Kulau ritual, it is a form of appreciation and love for their culture. Finally, in its function as a symbol representation is realized through guru sibaso who is a symbol of someone who has his own expertise or prestige.

This study aims to determine the use of wax media to improve breathing techniques at Solfeggio Choir, Universitas Negeri Medan. The purpose of this study is to describe how the use of wax media to improve breathing techniques at Solfeggio Choir Universitas Negeri Medan and to determine the obstacles faced by choir participants. Solfeggio, Universitas Negeri Medan. The theory used is the theory of utilization, vocal techniques, breathing, wax media, and choir. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The sample in this study was the Solfeggio choir, Universitas Negeri Medan. The data were collected by means of observation, interviews, documentation and literature study. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be seen that the use of wax media for vocal breathing techniques can accelerate the understanding of members in mastering vocal breathing techniques. The obstacles experienced by the choir participants were difficulty in controlling their breathing, different skill levels of the members when practicing breathing techniques using wax media, and discomfort when using wax for the first time.
